OT: Boredoms - can anyone advise on recordings?

Postby smudge on 12 Mar 2012 20:18

Apologies for the OT.

I saw/heard/experienced (I'm not sure there's a verb for it in english) this Japanese ensemble for the first time at a festival on Saturday. They were fabulous, so I also 'saw' them for the second time at the same festival on Sunday. A lot of people there did likewise. I now know that they've been around for years in various configurations (currently 5 drummers, 14 guitarists, and a gentleman called eYe conducting it all with his entire being), but I'm utterly clueless about where to start with recordings.

Given that drums are a key feature, I figured someone here might have some recommendations. Any suggestions gratefully received.

Nothing useful to add Smudge other than Blimeywow!

I'd never heard of them but just had a bit of a look on youtube and can see/hear why you want to get some info on recordings. Seeing them live must have been something else.

Every now and then I wish I still lived nearer London.

Moonstone, some of those YouTube clips are pretty good, aren't they? But you're right - not quite the same as the live experience. For one thing it doesn't provide the same sense of internal organs being shaken about :)

If it's any consolation, living in London didn't provide much of a logistical advantage this time. It was in Minehead, Somerset beyond the reach of the rail network (unless you count the infrequent steam trains). Worth the rather lengthy trip though.

Hmmm well there's quite a big choice on Amazon but which to choose?

Might be a case of putting names in a hat. Will have another look when I get home from work.

Looks like you need to blaze a trail and advise the rest of us, me duck.

Any song titles you remember? Or album covers you like in particular? Might their Wikipedia descriptions help you narrow down preferred sounds? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boredoms#Discography
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.
