OT: Nutters in Path of Tornadoes!

I guess this is an "all call". When I heard about severe weather in Illinois, in February nonetheless, I get really alarmed.
We just got lots of rain and some thunder too. Today it will be 77.

Tomorrow (Friday) there is concern for another severe weather outbreak in the mid-west and south (including Tennessee).

From my history readings, it's a bit the way folks wrote about being in the Blitz-w/out the defenders in Hurricanes and Spitfires! I mean that randomness, plus the noise accompanying the impending impact. When these storms roll thru the Ohio Valley, they tend to split north and south of Cincinnati proper, so I am the only one huddling in my basement w/ Mr. Mittens and a "go" bag-but I am there!
Seriously, all the Nutters who are more in the usual paths, its that time of year, and y'all are in my Good Thoughts when the wind start to wind up. This east coaster prefers hurricanes (both the weather AND the planes!) any ol' day to tornados-bleh!

The worst thing about it is, you have to simultaneously prepare for both the best and worst case scenarios...very often nothing at all happens in your immediate area when they're calling for one of these 'sky is falling' kind of days...but something bad happens often enough nearby that you worry...We have an 80-foot pine tree in our front yard I'm always sort of eyeing nervously. Good news is that the prevailing winds would probably blow it away from our house.

I was dumb enough to leave the kitchen window open for a couple hours tonight and am dying of pollen allergies and unable to sleep...gonna be really fun dealing with the tornado sirens when I'm zombie'd out...

But we get three or four months of this a year, so believe it or not you do actually get used to it a little. You can't just stop living your life. You load up on weather radios, get all the weather apps for your phone, preprogram the weather station on your car radio, and try to go on about your business.

I'll try to remember to check in tomorrow (and will bug Luna too if I see her on FB...Indy & Kiki are also targeted for this shit, unfortunately.)

Most likely scenario for me is that our power will go out and stay out, but I have a slew of those big backup batteries so I ought to be able to get online using 3G (unless the tower goes down, which sometimes happens).

(oh, and - the really great thing is that our political leaders, in their infinite wisdom, are trying to cut funding for storm predictions/NOAA. Really can't wait until we have no idea at all where the damned things are and when they're heading for us...)

Yep. It's just normal to plan for tornadoes here, like blizzards for the northern states, earthquakes in California, and hurricanes on the coasts. It is ridiculous that some want funding cut for NOAA/NWS, considering that just about every part of the US has some kind of regular severe threat.

We already have local schools announcing closings in anticipation. I don't have a basement, so I may spend tomorrow night at a friend's house. I'll check in when I can.

I'm kind of thinking of heading for a basemented relative also. Will wait and see how it plays out - I have the feeling this may be worse north of here.

(For when you're not dodging tornadoes) - if you've got a link to the numpty-inspired cost cutting on this stuff do share it. I'm sure a good few of us, including those of us outside tornado territory, will want to 'have words' with our representatives about this.

Looks like it's coming through Northern Kentucky, southern Indiana, and Cincinnati.

Other than the rain falling [i]sideways [i][/i][/i]all seems to be blowy, rainy, but ok in Cincinnati.
Indiana is another story-a WHOLE small town, Marysville, just North of Louisville KY, is gone. IndyGirl, please check in. Indianapolis seems to have been missed, but let us know!

Hey Suzanne. Such very sad pictures I've just been looking at.

I'm astounded that funding may be cut for the warning systems. How could they? How bloody dare they?!!!
I'm guessing this is a decision made by rich B******** with big underground bunkers that they can be safe in?
