Off topic question for Stewart, and the board

I was just really curious as to what you do to stay in shape. Don't take this the wrong way, but for your age, you seem to be in amazing shape, and your skills showcase that. I was just wondering if you had any tips on what you do that would be good for me. I've lost a ton, but am always looking for new ideas to get to that next level. Same goes for any member that is a health nut. I'm always up for any good tips on what works. I know you're busy Stewart, and might not have time to answer this, and that's ok. But I must warn you, some other guy I like and admire tells me I should do yoga and practise tantric ex, whatever that is. Joking aside, it would be really cool to hear what you guys do to stay in shape.

I'm not "in shape," but I did hike a 5% grade uphill 300 feet today. Oh, and I stayed in a Holiday Inn last night :D

(seriously, really kind of into the hiking thing. We have a bunch of pretty great trails with some big hills, which build endurance.)

I'm not up at 4:30 everyday for shits and giggles. At 5:30 I hit the road for a ten mile bike ride (with my NitetRider--a halogen light system) before going in to work (ugh)at 8. Three days a week I hit the gym(double ugh) for upper body stuff.

And I still look like S**t. But I like to ride my bike (and it's all I have to hold on to once I get to work and belong to the others...)

Pants on fire Madam! You do not look like shit!

Alex, when I rode horses for a living I was super fit and then I got squashed flat in an accident so riding is no longer an option. Nowadays I walk and walk and then some and am semi-fit.

I recommend walking lots over different terrains which is good for your body and your mind AND you can listen to music, and swimming which isn't so tough on your joints but your i-pod might not like it. Any exercise is good though. Keeps you sane and happy.

I have to keep up a pretty heavy exercise regime to keep the weight down (not off completely, I love food and cooking far too much for that!) I try to do an hour a day, 5-6 days a week, constantly switching it up to avoid muscle memory. So I might do cardio equipment at the gym 2 days a week, get in a 4-5 mile run another day when the weather is good, and alternate those days with pilates, kickboxing and weight/interval training at home. Doing something different every day keeps exercising from being boring.

And while I love to cook/eat, I try to follow a mostly Mediterranean diet - healthy oils (including not just olive oil but lard I render myself from my mom's pasture raised pork), moderate pasta & bread, lots of veggies and whole grains. I do a lot of Japanese "country"-style cooking as well and just try to avoid excessive fried foods and keep restaurant meals down to once a week (because gong knows what's in them half the time...)

My one dietary weakness is seriously good wine and whiskey, alas...but life's too short to not enjoy the finer things.

Very cool that so many here are into working out. I'm in the middle of converting my basement into a gym. Going to pick up a mountain of weights and bars in a few hours, and they're free

I work out a half hour every day. Cardio or strength training, sometimes yoga. Focus on eating lean meats, dairy, fruits & veggies. Avoid carbs. Basically, move more & eat less. :-)

Wow Craig, good on you. How much is 5 stone? I had a massive free weight workout tonight, and 45 minutes on the bike while watching the stupid game. I'll be sore tomorrow.

Walk as much as you can, bike when you can, and if you have time go two or three times to gym every week.
This is what I do (sometimes I have no time to go to gym, but if you keep it constant, your body gets use to it and it works anyway).
I remember an interview for the Spanish TV where Stewart said that a Police gig was a real deep excercise and he used to loose weight at every show.

My two bob: You've got to eat healthily AND exercise.
Learn your foods, and work out what kind of exercise is not only going to make you feel and look fit, but is *sustainable* for you ie no point enrolling in a 4am bootcamp if you can only do it for 6 days before conking out.
Exercise needs to become part of your routine.
Eat loads of fresh greens, every day.

Gio, walking is so under rated, I love it. I find too many distractions at the gym and too many excuses not to go. That's why having it at home is a great option for me. Plus I like the workout from free weights better. As many of you might have guessed, I can get jacked pretty easy. It does not take much to change my mind about anything and go in a different direction. In fact all it took was a Stallone interview on Inside The Actors Studio to make me think I'm acting like an arse, and I'd better get in shape now. Especially the part where he talks about how Rocky got made. BTW, if anyone has an artistic side, that story is a MUST SEE, it's pure brilliance.

Kim, thanks for the add on fb. I saw a post about your kids hanging out with friends and I was what??? The last time we chatted they were kust babies, hahaha. Oh and that Police picnic poster you posted on ebay is the same one I tried to buy for years when it was hanging in an old record store on Yonge St

Lot's of wisdom here. You hit it right on. To get all my greens I think I'll need to buy a juicer
