some ideas about the forum, what do you think?

Gio, I love that you ask for everyone's opinions and ideas. It's one of the things that makes SC Net so special.

Some of my favourite topics are OT, What are you listening to right now? Watcha readin'? What's it doing outside? etc, also the Happy Birthdays, the Christmas card exchange, and everyone asking after each other when weather hits. I think it would be a shame to put such threads away in a seperate room as they seem to be such a big part of the forum. Reading all this stuff when I first joined made me feel that chatting here was something I could do even though I'd never been on a forum before. I think it's what makes it an approachable place. Just my opinion.

Myself, I've got used to reading the bits that I'm interested in and skimming over the bits that don't really float my boat.

I do think the FAQ suggestion is a brilliant idea though. Or a question and answer section where anyone can ask and anyone can answer. Might even help the technologically challenged like me to figure out how to post pictures or put up an avatar without taking over the entire screen

Thanks for asking us all Gio
Stewart's Dinner Tales (formerly Stewarts' Dinner Tales) [Is there any way to fix that apostrophe, Eu?!? For me???]
Dear Lord my punctuation skills are non existant or maybe I need glasses. I had to read that 3 times before I spotted the difference.

I did go to school but it was a very very long time ago and I didn't pay attention.

Gio. What do you think of the suggestions so far?

I would seriously like to know if he had read every single thing you posted here, including your insults and physical threats directed at Georgygirl, before he "defended" you.

Gee, I wonder why. Because you and two or three of your loyalists appear to be determined to get your own way, be outright rude to nearly everyone else, and demand attention however you can get it on your own terms?

Frankly, you're on here night and day, taking over all the threads, and drowning out everyone else. Now that folks are calling you on it, I'd bet dollars to donuts we'll see another threat you're leaving. Not that you'll actually do it. It's more fun to pretend you're being picked on in yet another of your collective endless bids for attention. [Edit to reflect the fact the threat was being posted as I was writing this - that's how predictable and boring it all is.]

Let me get this straight: none of us are allowed to acknowledge group experiences a lot of people have shared because they're "not relevant" (since you less-than-handful of new folks, unlike literally millions of other people, weren't involved with Tourzilla); and that, laughably, we female forumers are "just jealous" when we say we're not interested in a constant stream of sophomoric sexy talk that's been posted a million times before, all over the Internet in as many places as there are Stewart sites? Or that we take umbrage to other longtime forumers accused of wrongdoing, without any evidence? (Like sockii, I'd bet any amount of money Stewart didn't know about that one when he posted a shoutout. Thanks to the emails flying around, I'd bet he does now.)

I notice that 99% of your defenders, save one or two, are men. Coincidence? Plan to run off other female forumers? Great. Girl power!

I for one don't think there's a thing wrong with less traffic, if what traffic is there is worth reading (i.e. not dominated by folks with plenty of free time on their hands and who seem to be determined to use this place as a chatroom.)

If this is the new status quo, change my vote to "new forums." Seems to me that the new people are just as guilty of exclusionary tactics as the older set, and I'd prefer to discuss what *I* like without being accused of being some sort of incontinent wrinkled old prune.

You know what, though? Outside all this, I bear you folks no malice, except for the fact that you're determined to inflict your own views on a community that I and dozens of others hear keep near and dear to our hearts. But if you need attention as badly as it appears, consider going to a capable therapist. There's no reason you should suffer when there's help for stuff like this.

Hi, Gio! :)

Hmmmm. Well, me being a creature of habit, my inclination would be to say not to change a thing. SC.net has an atmosphere, and that atmosphere has made it a different forum, and in my opinion much more welcoming forum than most others out there.

But lately I see that atmosphere changing, and I don't like it.

Now, before anyone gets their collective panties in a bunch and jumps to the conclusion that I'm directing these comments to specific individuals, stop. Those of you who know me know that I don't play like that. I shoot from the hip - honestly and bluntly. If I have something to say, I say it - straight up. Those of you who don't know me - well, you know it now. So if you’re offended already, put it away for a few minutes.

I think it’s safe to say that the SC.net population has changed lately into what appears to be two “camps”: those who were around before/during Tourzilla, and those who weren’t. Knowing that, two things can be expected. 1) those who were around “before”, feel (whether subconsciously or otherwise) a certain amount of possessiveness about the forum. After all, we all went through an amazing, life-changing, and intense experience. We formed bonds that have lasted. That’s not going to go away. 2) those who have joined the forum “later”, feel (whether subconsciously or otherwise) a certain amount of disdain/contempt/jealousy towards the people who were around before. The “new” group feels that the “old” group won’t shut up about the past and doesn’t give them the respect they deserve, and the “old” group feels that the “new” group doesn’t acknowledge their experience and give them the respect they deserve. What’s important to remember is that both of these feelings are valid and appropriate. And neither group should be attacked by the other for feeling this way.

Now, I do take issue specifically with many of the things that have been said here lately. I think that the “feelings” I allude to above have crossed the line into direct and personal attacks quite often, and on both sides. That is contrary to what SC.net has been about. If Newbies feel that Oldies are unwelcoming, that’s not true. If Oldies feel that Newbies have nothing to contribute, that’s not true either. In my opinion because of these recent happenings, change can be a good thing – and I think the timing is right.

I support the idea of having “sub-rooms”. I don’t think that it will fragment the site – I believe it’ll make it easier to pick through the information one wants, while leaving it in the forefront and not “burying” topics that people want information about. Leave the Krypton Forum room for Stewart “business” – have another room for Stewart personal dreaminess or whatever (e.g. Orangina fantasies) - have an OT room for non-Stewart related stuff, etc. I agree with Sockii to not fragment TOO much – but I think we can create at least a little order from the chaos, and it will be beneficial.

Having said that, I will get on my soapbox a little. And I’ll do it publicly, because we have no private message function, and because of that whole “shoot from the hip” speech I gave above. I think that some of the comments posted by you, Jemma, have been offensive. I think that you are defensive towards certain individuals, and that causes you to go on the attack. I think it would be beneficial for you (and others as well) to take a step back and think of where the other individual is coming from before assuming they are trying to insult you. SC.net is a worldwide forum, and not only are we at the disadvantage of being in cyberland where we don’t have the benefit of body language, etc., we are also dealing with language barriers (even those of us who speak the same language!). I applaud your enthusiasm, but I think you should understand that maybe some don’t have the same enthusiasm in the same way…and maybe they don’t want to read about it every waking minute. This is not personal towards you – it’s just their preference. Have sub-forums will I think help alleviate this problem. Other than that, the only real issue I have is your “throwing about” of the fact that Stewart addressed you personally. I think it’s very cool that he did so, and it’s part of the reason we love him so much – he’s accessible to and personal with his fans. But – many, many here have personal experiences with Stewart (in writing or in person), and to throw your experience back in the face of others in order to try and defend your behavior is not cool in my book. Please know that I am saying this respectfully – I want you to stick around and enjoy this forum experience as much as all of the rest of us do – but you are holding yourself back from that with some of the things you are choosing to do and say. Respect is a two-way street; give it, and you’ll get it.

Believe it or not, that’s all I have to say. I’m open to response and discussion. Love to all.

Bye, Gio! :)

If you knew Craig you'd know he was taking the piss. Although for what it's worth, I think he made some great points. A lot of us don't want to wade through sexually explicit posts about Stewart. Personally it makes me uncomfortable (and believe me I'm no prude!!). Fill your boots and post that stuff but I don't come on here to read things like that. It seems that some peole do, so having a "Stewart is cute" section would be great.

That said, I also love loads of the OT bits 'n' bobs and they are a part of what makes this forum so great.

Besides the fact that 1) its totally hypocrisy the old folks going on and on about the sexual stuff (look at the old posts!!),
2) some people are in serious need of lightening up and
3) you try to falsely impose a social order based on your previous experiences to something that is not your previous experiences: what is this to you? school? high school or junior high? work? church? marriage?
what order are you projecting?
plus 4) the only power and social order here is the man with the sql prompt
this internet forum is pretty typical.

Enough with the heavy!!! You are seriously giving me a serious buzzkilll!
