some ideas about the forum, what do you think?

I like sockii's ideas. The newbie and OT pages especially.

Craig, but I like porn! Just kidding ;-). I like the format the way it is because I am a creature of habit and I don't like to check sub forums for new threads. If you add more sub forums, I'd like a section at the top for new threads in all forums. I'm sure whatever you decide will be fine. It won't keep me away :-) If it's a radical change I will suck it up and get used to it.

There are a few simple phpbb modifications/add-ons to scroll/highlight the most recent threads in all sub-forums.

Some people may consider me a dinosaur but I have created probably more than my fair share of OT threads. With that said, I agree with the suggestions of Craig. OT threads are part of SC.net's character and charm, but I think but separating them from more STEWART/Police posts, the STEWART/Police threads are less likely to be diluted away.

Just my two pennies.

I don't see a need for a change myself. I like being about to visit the forum and see what has recently changed. I almost never visit the links page, for example, and suspect I wouldn't see what was on most of the pages if we had multiple ones. (In other words, please don't change since I'm lazy.)

I would be OK with a separate page for OT as opposed to Stewart/Police-related topics.

I think a newbies page wouldn't be a good idea. A nutter is a nutter no matter how long they have been posting here.

If there was really porn here, I would support Craig's suggestion. But I don't see the sexually suggestive stuff that is here the same as porn.

If we do have multiple pages, the fewer the number the better.

I second 99.95% of what sockii and craig said. Spot on. And I like the new posts at the top idea, just so you can see if there's anything missing.

I definitely am not on here as much as I used to be, so being able to get the big news is great.

And we've ALL posted OT things here, and a lot are relevant to us as "freinds," so we can't get rid of them! But good to be able to get the highlights.

Thanks Gio! Miss you!

I don't really care either way, tell you the truth. It might be easier to navigate with subforums, but you also might miss news you would have seen if everything had been in one place...

I get that some folks are bored with content that doesn't interest them, but for the most part people are pretty good with putting OT at the start of off-topic threads.

Maybe something like CHAT at the beginning of a thread that is mostly only a few people talking about some subset of interests?

Again, I don't really care - I'm not fascinated by everything that goes on here, but neither am I irritated by it necessarily.

xoxoxox

Another quick thought: Maybe a "chat room"? I've seen those implemented on other boards and I understand you can get the software cheap or free these days...

(although a lot of chat goes on, on FB too these days - again, just a thought)

The problem with the Links forum page, to me, is not being able to comment on them there! I would open up commenting on the Links, personally. A section for posting links to outside pages/sources/news is fine, but a lot of times if I wanted to comment on a link, I'd have to copy it to the main forum anyway...so the Links board becomes just redundant and most people honestly don't use it (they post a link here because they want to talk about it and hear other opinions...)

sockii wrote:Before anything else, I would love, love, love to see an official forum FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) posted clearly at the top of the forum. I know myself and some other forum members would be happy to contribute to it. Just with links to historic/important threads and general forum netiquette, so that it's easy for new members to get a grip on some of our traditions, etiquette and "slang" language.

I think a "Newbie/Welcome" sub-forum would be outstanding, for new members to introduce themselves and get their feet wet. A lot of forums have this and it can be great for getting new folks welcomed in to an environment.

I like these ideas. I know I would have appreciated a FAQ as a newcomer, just to get an understanding of unfamiliar references without having to search all over the place. And a place to welcome new people would be great.

As far as OT posts are concerned, I've made plenty myself, and I think they definitely have a place here. Many of us have common interests that are not strictly Stewart-related, and it's fun to share other cool stuff among friends here. (I particularly like the "checking in" posts after major events/natural disasters that affect people in various locales - it's good to know that we're all concerned about each other.) But I do think OT subjects need to be clearly separated from posts about Stewart, so those who aren't interested can more easily find what they want to see.

good grief.
I thought the man himself logged on last week and complimented the crayyyyzyness.

fine, go back to 3 posts a week and a bunch of threads about when the police got back together....

new stuff is happening. new jams, new tunes, new living.

keep it crayyyzy, but not toooo crayyyyzy. whatever...

and by the way, robert plant, however sexy he is is NOT porno...
if you don't like him, just don't look....

Oh, I'm looking. I never miss a chance to look at Robert Plant.

I think the suggestions made here (and Gio's purpose in posting this topic) are to avoid the "crayyyyzyness" and give everyone space to post what they want without stepping on each other's toes.

I say LEAVE IT. I know what I want to read and what I don't, but this way I can decide. And I'm afraid I would miss something if you start separating the pages. Plus, what's to stop someone from diluting the main topics or posting OT on them anyway? We are just a too distractable bunch to give us more to be distracted by.

Exactly what Sockie said, particuarly the above sentance I have highlighted. I would also like to suggest a Porn category folder for certain individuals, who like to post regular suggestive comments and sexual references. Which I personally don't think is entirely appropriate on this main Forum. Craig[/quote]

WHO are those people? and where ar the sexual references???
sometimes me and Jemma are joking about sex!! but Porn category is not appropriate!!!!!!!

and in this forum there are a lot of people who are differents each others!! but we all are here for stewart!!

and i'm fed up trying to write in english so in French

Je suis ici pour rencontrer des fans de Stewart, partager des photos des musiques et des histoires
et comme le dit Stewart we are all crasy!!!!!:)
