And Dive, watch out. It's a black hole of time suck. But I LOVE it. New music. All I can eat. And we know I'm insatiable! 8)

I'll check out Spotify as well - thanks for the heads up! For a while I was a big fan of last.fm and it introduced me to a few bands I love today, but I was ALWAYS having trouble getting it to cooperate with my iPhone and iPod and the customer service was not great for Mac users at all...

(Not thrilled it wants to integrate OF COURSE with Facebook, sigh...is there any way to escape having to tie everything in to one's Facebook account these days?)

Sockii, I don't think I HAD to integrate into my FB as I am not normally big on that. BUT I chose to do so, mostly because I wanted to be able to share playlists with other FB friends. I personally enjoyed seeing and hearing other people's (that are my friends) lists.

I have the premium ($9.month). I figure if I listen to one new album a month I might have not bought because of spending $9, then the rest is gravy. mmmm, gravy.

Empty, if you make it to the El Rey report back please!

I'll have to ask for my teenage daughter to give me a tutorial on Spotify.

Every time I ask her if she wants to buy a new album from an artist we like, she sighs and says she already has it on Spotify and I'm like what the hell is a Spotify?

I feel OLD!

"To register for Spotify you must use your Facebook account."

That's the message I got in trying to finish the download. And confirmed after reading this thread - only way to access is to link to Facebook. Guess I'll be skipping as I'm trying to disassociate from FB more than ever lately.

LOL augh don't get me started!!!

The site I used to write for, and was making some decent money from, was bought out by Yahoo! last year. And all of my better paying gigs with them were then cancelled to try to meet the Yahoo! internet marketing profile.

I raised hell when the site I'm currently writing for started promoting too much Facebook integration and when another site wanted to make it so comments made on private posts there could be publicly broadcast on Facebook. That shit is not on. I really freaking hate FB and only use it because it's the only way to keep in contact with some people - but I'm trying to wean away from it as I don't trust TPTB there to have any respect for private/semi-private information whatsoever.

So anytime I'm FORCED to link an account elsewhere to my Facebook, I rebel. I know I could just create a fake/backup account, but still...it's the principle involved that bugs the shit out of me.

Definitely has a Peter Gabriel sound to it with a hint of Sting.

I'm liking KImbra too.

Yeah, I think I got in just under the forced-FB wire when I signed up for Spotify.

Love it too, but I find that not everything I'm looking for is always available. Glad to see Gotye was!

I'm also way not a fan of Facebook. Would think of cancelling my account if I hadn't already signed up to 1001 band and artist pages (and, love it or no, you really can't beat it for getting breaking news...)

I'm getting close to just creating a dummy account I can keep completely separate from my actual identity. Because I just am getting creeped out by their continual efforts to sneakily abuse users' privacy, yet there are things like following artists/bands/using certain software programs I like to do.

I mean...yeah I'm still addicted like crack to it at times for ranting and random stuff, but even so, I hate that it's not easy to filter who sees what.

thanks a LOT for this Gotye/The Police mashup link, it's so great
I found this Scorpions / Roxanne mix, except for some bum notes it's interesting:

I actually already did that. Not that I'm trying to hide anything salacious from my friends, but I reaaaaally don't need my elderly relatives/work contacts/religious fundie neighbors to know how much I love Motorhead. Or drag queens, or anything else that might be mildly controversial.

I still use my regular account for about 98% of what I do over there, but it's nice to have options for keeping up with stuff without having to worry about defending it to people who won't understand.

Oh, and - you have to give FB either a working credit card number or I believe a phone number to keep a dummy account that you don't associate with a long Friends list. If you have a Bank of America credit card, you can create a 'virtual number' that you can enter, but set a limit of $1.00 or whatever so nobody can charge anything to it. Worked a treat for yours truly.

Credit card?! Why?

I've already had one religious uncle unfriend me because of my liberal, gay-friendly posts and photos, so I've kind of given up on making the family happy on FB. I'm not adding anyone else that might not like my views. Still not happy about the new timeline profile that will soon be mandatory.

Back to Gotye:
The song is playing a lot on German radio right now and I like it, especially the chorus.
At first listen I thought of Roger Hodgson (ex-Supertramp) doing the vocals... 8)
