Chime in when you can and let us know how you are.

Thanks, folks. It was a long night - Nashville's warnings were about 2 AM with Birmingham getting it around 3, so you might not see Luna around for a while - but she posted on FB that she's OK.

Whew. I hate to think what we're going to see in March/April with the siren going off all night long in January.

[edit: whoops, sorry redneck. Didn't see you had posted the 3 AM info already. Glad you're all right. Looks like Arkansas got it pretty bad, too.]

Being a Brit I can't imagine what it must be like to have weather like this as part of your lives.

Stay safe everyone.

Well, it's certainly not fun and games, but not every tornado is a huge F4 like you see in the movies, and the path of them is usually narrow and pretty short. But on the other hand, if your number comes up, it can be catastrophic - so you have to stay up and make sure you're not in harms way.

Luckily others are usually up posting and drinking as well :D

I am fine, just extremely tired at work today. The tornado warning for Birmingham started at 3 am, but the storms didn't reach my area south of town until about 4:30. I believe I will be going to bed early tonight.

Glad you are all OK. (Like moonstone, I can't imagine having to deal with that kind of 'weather' - I'm not sure 'weather' covers it.)This may be a dumb question, but isn't this the time of year you folk in tornado country usually get a break? What's going on?

I don't know about north of here, but the Deep South states can get tornadoes any time of year. Spring and fall are usually the most active times though.

Glad no "hit" for you, was thinking hard (and praying!) about y'all when I heard the weather reports.....you need a six-toed cat. Mine doesn't like storms but he only exhibits running down the stairs (I live in what used to be the attic, and have the last last flight of stairs inside my space) and meowing to go to basement when the Tornado watches/warnings are issued! Always take the cat seriously, every time! Meeee-ooowww! And yes we head to ground!
Virginia is also not the usual Tornado alley, but can get hit-and I mean HIT! Pulaski last year and Petersburg abt. a decade ago, big hit!

Nashville got hit with an F4 once in December, I believe...Story is we're right where the cold air from Colorado/the Midwest hits the warmer air from the Gulf of Mexico, which is what causes 'em.

Kansas/Oklahoma get them too, but they tend to be deadlier in the South...they strike at night more here; there are hills, so you can't see 'em coming; no basements (we're built on limestone)...

But, I figure, everybody has something. At least we don't get mudslides, earthquakes or wildfires. As much as I love the UK (I'm near-100% Brit/Celt heritage), I'd have a tough time with all the rain.

I do feel sorry for my pals further south who are more impacted by hurricanes (which also can cause tornadoes)...
