A question

Well, here's the thing: I sort of never got the kind of fandom community in which the members decided new folks weren't welcome, because they, the oldsters, were the "real" fans.

A.) There's no way to determine who's a "real" fan of anything, and
B.) Just think about what that says: "I love this artist so much that I'm determined to ruin his/her sales and popularity by running off all the other fans!"

I guarantee you there's no artist on Earth who would want his or her "real" fans to act like that! (And I'm trying to hang out on another fan board related to an artist/label here in Nashville where that's the really prevalent attitude...just makes me appreciate this place that much more...)

I don't have a problem with you, Jemma...and certainly don't think you should have to pass some kind of trivia test to hang out here. Have been enjoying your vid links, am a Quasi fan, etc.

It's not that I think Stewart is a hideous troll, but there have just been a lot of threads in the past about what hot stuff he is. Having sorta seen it before (being happily married, a little old lady, etc), I don't have a lot to add. Also, I think there's a risk sexy talk will bring perverts out of the woodwork, b/c a lot of people (guys) see "sexy stuff online" and think "porn". But if that's what you want to post about, knock yourself out.

There are a couple of people here I personally think are jerks, so I don't talk to them. But I'm not a moderator and can't cancel their accounts. You'd have to talk to Gio and/or Eugenio about that. However, it does seem that this site tends to "police" (ha ha) itself as far as behavior...you'll notice threads started by certain people aren't participated in, and generally drop straight to the bottom of the message boards.

Sockii said it well, Smax said it well too. It's not a status board. Some of that were here for a while have bonded over the board and also events, so now we are 'freinds' (joke from a Stewart post!) in "real" life as well.

After Tourzilla, it quieted down here. When Stewart is active, the board is more active. our love never goes away. And there's no doubt he's foxy. But that's only one of many fabulous facets of the Maestro. A LOT of us grew up with major SC crushes. But we grew up, he's married, and a real person. And the realer he's become the harder it is to objectify him. Darn. Doesn't mean he's not capable of *ahem* enflaming, just more smoldering than before.

To be fair, when I was new, I expected far less from the board and got far more out of it than I ever expected- especially in terms of real-world friends. There are far less jerks and trolls here than one might think, what with it being a free board and all.

No one is more valuable and relevant than anyone else. I will admit, however, I got a little defensive when someone new welcomed me.

Sexy talk stays. Stewart is a man. I'll treat him as such!

 that's funny, Jemma. I guess i'll keep enough OT interest to still put some money in the jukebox :P

Wow, look what I started with this thread. I wasn't just talking about the obvious troll. I was noticing that things have gotten more, um, excitable here lately, and I haven't seen it like that since I joined a little over a year ago. I was wondering if that was unusual, but after reading some older posts, I see now that it's not really. I guess I just came in during a break.

Carry on!

OT is not a Copeland-specific abbreviation. It simply means Off Topic. If you label a thread OT before the title, people who come here just to read STEWART and Police related stuff know they can ignore that thread without the risk of missing anything about SC.

To me, there is nothing wrong with OT threads, I have probably created as many of those as anyone here. But some here have noted that they would appreciate the marking of OT threads, and so I try to comply as a courtesy.

Actually I think it was a good thread to start up...it has been really quiet for a long time, and I'm really glad to see more activity here again. I've missed it. I know a lot of the gang from the reunion tour-days have flittered off to Facebook, but I loathe that site so much and it's so difficult to keep up with things there. If it wasn't the only way to stay in touch with some folks, I'd drop it entirely - especially as it seems far easier there (and on Twitter) to let off-topic debates and opinions turn friendships sour. That old dinosaur in me still finds messageboards and mailing lists more "civilized" forums for fannish discussion, I guess... Some old regulars here have lost their login info and just given up trying to get back on the site, which is a shame, too.

But anyway, yeah. I think it's been good to kind of take a step back, a deep breath, and take things in perspective. We're all here because we're fans of THE MAN in some form or fashion - and we shouldn't get on each other's cases because of why precisely we're fans and how we choose to express our fannishness, provided it's within the boundaries set by Giovanni and Eugenio, since they're the only ones with a final say in the matter. New folks should always be welcome - but should also welcome advice and guidance from those who have been around since the prehistoric days as long as given with good faith, in friendship, and with everyone's best interests in mind.

Facebook has become the class reunion from hell that never ends. There's a reason why they only occur every 5 years. Thank god it's not like that here!
