Well, here's the thing: I sort of never got the kind of fandom community in which the members decided new folks weren't welcome, because they, the oldsters, were the "real" fans.
A.) There's no way to determine who's a "real" fan of anything, and
B.) Just think about what that says: "I love this artist so much that I'm determined to ruin his/her sales and popularity by running off all the other fans!"
I guarantee you there's no artist on Earth who would want his or her "real" fans to act like that! (And I'm trying to hang out on another fan board related to an artist/label here in Nashville where that's the really prevalent attitude...just makes me appreciate this place that much more...)
