A question

Is the recent preponderance of "attitude" a new thing around here, or did I just join during an unusually quiet time?

Just wondering....

There are a few folks around here who suddenly seem to feel the need to harass new folks for their enthusiasm. The best thing to do is simply ignore them (aka, "Don't feed the trolls.")

These folks are different from old timers who may post now and then with a gentle caution of what is or isn't traditionally wise to post here (it's too bad we don't really have a FAQ for the board and the Dictionary hasn't been updated since the end of Tourzilla). Some of us are protective of the board for a lot of reasons, especially as it's Stewart's official board, he posts here from time to time (yay!) and clearly reads from time to time as well. So I wouldn't put the Trolls in the same category as the sometimes Cranky Old Dinosaurs of the board.

I get that distinction. I've found almost everyone here to be very nice (including the sometimes cranky ones). It's just one or two lately...

I like to think that the nice people on this forum GREATLY outweigh the Troll/douche bags. Stick around, Jemma. I think you'll like it here.

And a belated welcome to you, Jemma, from one of SC.net's cranky old dinosaurs. :)

Wow, I have limited computer time access, so I have really must have missed some sort of exchange something! If there weren't so many fun folks here, the card exchange would not have lasted beyond the first couple go rounds.....
Most of the time, folks just want to discuss some sort of Stewart, or even Police, related news/event/happening/trivia/ebay or secondhand score-lot's of fun! It's great to hear what's out there to see or read or run across, especially those youtube and web links for my because I do not have the computer time avail. to me for searching those out (love it when anyone posts those!). I also never have been part of any sort of board or group before or since, so I sometimes think that it is hard for folks to 'hear' how someone really means how/what they are writing. Glib off the cuff humor could seem snarky or people just having really different perspectives on issues to begin with. The great part is folks enjoy Stewart Copeland's music, humor and his Police related career too. Its really great to have new folks, just post and enjoy!

After I wrote a reply, saw thread that prompted this one. Discouraging. People allow The Fool to take them over and say/do the crassest things. LA and JB, really most folks on this site are fine, just music fans. Hopefully the negative ones just stay off. Sorry that y'all had this go on around y'all, terrible.

Be Nice Or Leave.

i like it when new people come, i was new once. i like it how they do new stuff or ask new stuff or present new stuff. Long may it continue.

it's a shame but do you remember those other kids you were at school with? and how some of them were bullies, or hid their insecurity with aggression, or had inherited a fkd up world view, or were just plain nasty?
well, unfortunately they all grew up and are still out there.
A wiser man than myself once said that you have to remember that most other people are, unfortunately, really capable of being twats.

There's a pretty big SC.net community on Facebook these days. Which can mean word spreads fast and folks come running if something's happening.

Otherwise, it can get quiet and it's my theory that folks post bullshit just to get attention. I'm with whoever said (Sock, I think) not to feed the trolls.

i just remember being young like you and running around with a leather coat and long hair and just thinking how jaded so many old farts were, giving me the evil eye like i was going to try to steal something from them or such. And professors, what a cyncial lot! Vowed to try and not be like that when 'old fartness' arrived :P

it's good to have new blood - they ask the kind of questions I never get tired to answer. and if it's OT stuff I'm not interested anyway... most of the time...
