The rehearsal set list...
I wonder if this is what they already are planning to play on tour, or if it was just a preliminary list to jam on.
The tour is still several months out. It has to be a preliminary list.
This must be Andy's stand, because the book open to Rehumanize Yourself is guitar tab.
I'd argue that it's Sting's stand. Andy don't need no tab.
The OBVIOUS ONES, CAN'T ARGUE:

Magic
Surprised to see it considering how much trouble it gave them in the studio and how much trouble it was for Sting to sing on the following tour.
De Do Do Do -- the lyrics are kind of annoying and cheesy, but the music is good, and it was a hit, so OK, if you have to...
Cheesy? If that's cheesy, so is a good third of all the pop songs ever written. De Do Do Do, shares a similar lyrical thread with a great many of them (miscommunication). It's also a tremendous song live.
Synchronicity II -- the Loch Ness monster thing is kind of cheesy, but it's a good rock song, and somewhat well known
Again with the cheese? The "Loch Ness Monster thing" is metaphor. Not a dairy product.
Invisible Sun -- kind of slow for a live performance
And yet they played it at nearly every show since GHOST was released. And, in fact, prior to the Grammys, it was the last song they played together in public.
One World -- very drippy hippie sentiment, pretty mediocre song
A simple song that also shines very brightly in a live scenario. One thing that the Police proved time after time is that "simple" doesn't automatically equal "mediocre."
SONGS I WISH THEY WOULDN'T PLAY:

Tea in the Sahara -- not as bad, but it's a song that starts out slow and quiet and stays that way, and the lyrics make no sense--maybe somebody can explain them to me
It's about broken promises.
sounds like Sting solo material, not the Police
Tea In The Sahara is probably the single greatest example of Andy's "warbling cloud." It's a signature sound.
Murder By Numbers -- lounge music. weak lyrics.
I think that's a band favorite. It's certainly one of Sting and Andy's favs. The lyrics are about the manipulation of large groups of people. The music is based on a jazz chord progression.
nothing more to be said.
And yet you keep going!
SONGS I THINK THEY OUGHT TO PLAY:

Instead of some of the ones in the last two groups--

Omegaman -- Good up-tempo song, Andy's best-written
It's decent, but if they are going to play one of Andy's songs, I'd prefer "Friends." It's darker, cooler, and has a greater potential for improvisation. To my knowledge, they've never done it live - which makes it one of the most surprising Police songs they could choose.
No Time This Time -- awesome song, maybe hard for them to pull off live at their age... Would be a perfect closer.
Age has nothing to do with it. Only ability and attitude (which they all still have). I agree that it would be a decent closer, but they already have a much better, signature one in "So Lonely."
Darkness -- Stewart's best song, one of my favorite Police songs -- maybe not an ideal live song, but it's a better "slow" song than some of the ones above.
It's one of my favorites as well. However, I don't really see it (or hear it rather) as an arena performance song. But I'm certain they could find a way to change that.
Replace Walking, Tea, Murder, One World, and either Synch II or Invisible Sun with those, and I'd call it close to perfect. Just my opinion, though.
To each his own! :D

Lose Tea in the Sahara and Walking in your Footsteps.

Both great songs, but not concert songs in my humble and often daft opinion.

Everything else would be cool.

My only fear about this whole tour is that it is going to be the Synchronicity Tour verbatim.

But then again - why the frig am I complaining? Stupid moaning bugger.

Sting did say the word "Mellow" at the rehearsals. Don't get too mellow boys!

"One World" rocks!

What about rare stuff like "Visions of the Night?" It's ok on the Message in a Box compilation but it really shines on the Strontium 90 CD (despite the fact that Stewart's drums sound like they're stuffed with wet blankets). If they would play it like that, it could really work - not too high for Sting, maybe Andy could come up with some cool harmony for backing vox.

And let's not forget some jam tunes like "Flexible Strategies" or "Shambelle." Rest Stingo's voice, let Andy wail, and give Stew a chance to burn off some of that caffeine. :)

I'm willing to put money on Message In A Bottle being the show opener. Should get the crowd pumped!

Next To You should definitely be an encore as it was in the early days.

I think these will definitely be on the set list:
Message in a Bottle
Roxanne
Every Breath You Take
When the World
Spirits in the Material World
Can't Stand Losing You
Bed's Too Big
Walking on the Moon
Voices Inside my Head
Synchronicity 2

My Wishlist:
Nothing Achieving
So Lonely
Truth Hits Everybody (slow version)
Be My Girl Sally
Masoko Tanga
Bring on the Night
Does Everyone Stare
Man in a Suitcase
A Sermon
One World
Darkness
Walking in your Footsteps
Miss Gredenko
King of Pain
Tea In the Sahara
I Burn for You

I think we can expect Voices to open When the World is Running down just like they did at the Whisky and Sting did on Broken Music. I imagine the thought is to open with Voices like they did in '83 but I do think Message is the better choice.

I could actually do without Don't Stand as I never thought it was great live. Arguably, I'd also swap ELTSDIM, Demoliton Man, De Do Do Do, Murder By Numbers, Wrapped Around Your Finger and Invisible Sun for any of the above. Just my 2 cents as Sting has done some Police songs enough solo that they are in his comfort zone and I also think there is just WAY too much off of Synchronicity - I count 7 tracks altogether.

I know the general public want a greatest hits set list but that was the Synchronicity Tour in my opinion. I'm hoping they throw in more of the odd tracks to appease the fans (like they have with Deathwish).
