Animal Logic: What Happened?

Animal Logic: What Happened?

What happened to Animal Logic?

They were a really good band with great songs. I love both of their CDs. I wish I would have seen them live. However, I don't think they toured much. Based on the few live performances that exist on Youtube, they were great live.

I've never heard an explantion as to what happened. The only event more mysterious is that no one- as far as I know- has ever publicly commented on what happened between Miles Copeland and Sting.

jerseyfan -

You might find this interview with D Holland pretty interesting, as I think it addresses a lot of the issues surrounding Animal Logic, at least from her point of view:

Unlike a lot of other folks I really like AL a lot myself, especially the second album, and have followed some of Deborah's work since then. She's a very gifted singer and songwriter IMHO, just not really cut out for the rock/pop world.

That was a great interview. I admit, I was one of the people who wasn't really interested in Deborah, but I would never have waved her aside! Sheesh! As a working mom myself, I admire her. I just didn't have that perspective at the time. It's a shame that the business is still so male dominated. I'm glad she's doing well. She was not the only casualty of Miles' affairs at the time that IRS went under.

Well, at least we now know that AL will never rise again. Never knew it was that bad for her. Glad she's ok now.

Anyone who is a fan of great vocalists should check out the Refugees! Deborah Holland is one of my favorite singers, awesome voice!

sockii, thanks for the link.

I just found out two amazing facts. First, Andy Summers was going to be in Animal Logic. Wow! I always thought that Stewart and Andy should find another singer- similar to what Van Halen did- and put out albums and tour as a band with a different name. So this all leads to another question: What happened to Andy Summers? Why did he drop out? That would have been an awesome group? Was is creative differences?

The second amazing fact in that article is that Miles Copeland was having financial trouble. How is that possible? At that point Miles had been Sting's manager for ten years. What did he do with all money he made with Sting and with the Police? We're talking about millions and millions of records sold, at least 1,000 sold out concerts and millions of dollars made from T-Shirt sales. What about the money he made with Squeeze, the Go-Go's and all those other groups he had?

There's a video on YouTube where Miles says he got 25 percent of the money the Police generated. Granted, he said he would put money back in. Nevertheless, 25 percent of Police money is a truckload of Benjamins. So how can he possibly have money troubles? The answer is that it's not possbile.

Overall, I think Holland was pretty positive about the AL experience. They should have found another bass player. I now Clarke is considered a bass God. Stewart, however, was the real star of that group. I'm sure that for every one person who knew Clarke, there were ten Stewart fans. He was real draw.

If the Police had reunion tour, AL could also get togeher for a new CD and a tour. It could happen. It would draw a lot of attention.

I saw the Refugees about a year and a half or so ago at the Birchmere in Alexandria (they opened for the last Lowen and Navarro performance I saw before they had to stop performing due to Eric Lowen's advanced ALS) and I can confirm they do a great show and are worth checking out.

what happened... to the tour in February 1990 ?

here's an ad with tourdates on the bottom:
http://www.policefans.org/Police_wiki/i ... l_Logic%29

click on the picture to enlarge it

it seems that from all those dates only the Nashville one really took place on the day it was supposed to!
the Chicago gig was on February 17, not 18

everything else was changed or cancelled.
I've read that a Washington gig was definitely cancelled

if anyone has any ideas about a specific concert or why everything was changed, let me know

I was surprised she mentioned touring so much. I thought that they didn't tour at all in support of the 2nd album. At least I couldn't find any dates to go to.

saw 'em when i was 15 in london. That gig was filmed and broadcast later, i've got the video with a 15 year pold me jumping up and down on it.

am i wrong to say that i believe andy did not get on with stanley clarke? i guess for a guitarist that likes filling holes, stan doesn't leave much room. i remember reading the outlandos fan club update at the time saying that andy hhad joined the band in buenos aires, but that they were called 'Rush Hour' at that point.

i felt sorry for deborah when i saw em 'cos everyone was either a stewart or a stan fan, i remember it being fairly equal between those two.... the biggest cheers of the night were for the songs when deborah uncomfortably walked off stage and left stan and stewart (and the monstrously big-haired guitarist) to play 'school days' or 'lopsy lou'.

I was lucky enough to see them at the Roxy and the Palace on the tour supporting the first album. From my own recording, which was posted in a previous thread:

deborah h, from the interview talking about her new folksy album; " I enjoyed not using drums for the past two records. It’s kind of neat having percussion as your rhythmic element. I think it’s also a reaction to it being so hard to sing over drums and bass in Animal Logic."

Animal Logic Live was far better than the CDs.
I saw The Palace show and The Oasis in San Jose. Some secret show or warm up show at a restaurant in LA?

The problem with the band that I think led to its dismissal apart from elusive commercial success, is that Stewart and Stanley absolutely blew Holland off the stage and into the balcony. They also had some guitarist named Rusty I think who was eternally lost in songs like Lopsy Lu and others. They were just too much of a powerhouse rhythm section, and would need a far stronger talent out in front.
