I have never seen these. Only the duo that night. Maybe they used a drum machine! Cool!

what's to rescue?
I've got photos from this gig which I'm not allowed to share for copyright reasons. Stewart was there alright and was playing with a long sleeved white shirt with yellow sleeves.
I'll try to get these two photos here onto the Wiki, of course...

Nothing to rescue. The photographer didn't have a good camera angle or was guitar and bass fan.
Stewart was there all right as well as the rollicking and exuberant Specials. Don't know what the XTC in the subject was referring to?

on his website the photographer mentions that he was there for XTC and not for The Police, that's why there are more and better XTC photos !

I'm allowed to show them on the Police Wiki, too - and maybe there's a ticket as well, so thanks for pointing these out, garyq!!

My bad. The Vancouver show I was referring to was in February of 1980.

At 1:21 and 2:21 (when the lights come up)

I'd love to get a copy of the raw footage from ina.fr someday. Also a translation of the interviews would be fun.

Hi Jeff
You'll find below o transcription of the broadcast ( excuse for my poor english :!: )
Michel

Host :
10 000 people attended The police concert at the Stade de Biarritz yesterday night, the crowd was mosly
composed of people between 14 and 20 years old coming from all over the country and waiting to see the band at
midnight. The Police , a phenomena we are trying to explain.
Interviewer :
-Do you know Police
Answer :
No
I : How far to you come to see the band ?
A : Mont de Marsan
Paris
I : Do you come just for the band ?
A :Yes virtually
I : And you ?
A: from Bordeaux
I : Since when do you arrive ?
A: A couple of days
I : And the price of the tickets , 65 francs ( 10 euros now )
A: There are 3 bands playing before Police so it's not expensive at all
A: There are 4 bands playing before one must pay them
A: There was a guy who won 2 tickets at a contest , he sold me one
I : At least you couldn't get them in another way
A : Yes I could have managed to get them but it would have been more expensive.
I : Why ?
A : Black market
I : Would you be ready to pay more and how much money would you be ready to spend ?
A : No I wouldn't , people have to pay the tickets in time
I : What do The Police mean for you in the rock music world ?
A: A new music, the new wave, a cross over between rock and reggae
A : In rock , it's a new music, an undefinable one , a blend of punk, reggae and rock which sounds quite good
A: It's a very fashionable music , very dancing
I : Do you like Police ?
A : (little girl ) Yes I do
I : Do you some of their records ?
A: Yes
I : Is it the same phenomena as The Beatles was at the time ?
I : For me The Beatles belong to the past and The Police is the new trend.
I : But compared to the Beatle at the time ?
A: At the time I don't know because I wasn't there at the time of the Beatles, but I am living this moment right
now
I : Sir , do you know The Police ?
A: (old guy on his bike) Police , yes he is just behind us .
I: Sir , do you know The Police ?
A : ( Policeman) Yes I know them , but excuse me...
I: miss, do you know The Police ?
A: ( woman in her car) It's jazz I think or Rock'n roll
I : Do you wait to see The Police ?
A: No, I brought my daughter.
I : You're not going to see them ?
A : Non, ah,ah,ah.
I: why?
A: we are not prepared for it, not enough to attend such concerts, nevertheless I like their music.
I:(to the policeman ) do you like this kind of music ?
A:yes, I do .
I : What do you think of this kind of event ?
A : There isn't enough

Tool cool! You got that right arm flailing about like Stewart, but you can see something is a bit different!

The INA archives are superb, they seem to have a lot of really great, under-the-radar stuff by big acts (i.e. early Who footage). This is such a cool little gem, especially since I'm somewhat familiar with those Southern France regions! I've always held the July-September 1980 tour in very high regard - RTL (French radio) supposedly broadcast a lot of the shows on that tour (only over AM radio I think), but it seems that only Orange 1980.08.20 has surfaced so far.

Cool Vancouver pics too!

Ina is "Institut National de l'Audiovisuel" (french audiovisual institute) which collects and archives radio and TV programs for 60 years.
This TV report is a bit of treasure for Police fans, despite the very short live footages.
The only thing you could do is to dowload this report via Ina.fr.
The original footages used for this report were shot by local crews for a broadcast at regional TV news in Bordeaux and I guess it would be difficult to get them now...

Just for the little story (maybe french fans here would be surprised) : the young guy interviewed at 0'38" is called Dominique Farrugia and was part of the french humorous TV performers Les Nuls.
He is now a producer and director.
The guy now : http://img.news-de-stars.com/dominique-farrugia/dominique-farrugia-chevalier-de-la-legion-d-honneur_40298_w250.jpg
