I am buying anything from the SC Signature Drum kit!

Postby roddswett on 15 Sep 2011 13:35

So I was late. All 50 of the drumsets from TAMA were sold. Anyone out there selling the octobans, the timbales, a tom or the whole kit? Of course I check ebay every week, but no luck whatsover.
Just let me know!

Welcome roddswett!

You can still build an SC kit. The only difference is the finish. You can get regular blue sparkle. Not Police blue, but itll still look killer. Gongbass Pat has one like that. Maybe he'll sell it to ya! (the guy has like 20+kits)

Myself and tamajt are the only ones on here who have the official sig kit that I know of, but you'll have to wait until we are deceased before one becomes available.

Good luck. Post a pic!

Cheers

Thanks for that warm wellcome.

I have seen the "regular" sparkle blue and it is just NOT the same.
Someone at Tama told me that I have to wait untill 2013 because there is a 5 year "moratory" for that color.

Anyway, as stated before, maybe one of you just want to get rid of some items, like the "useless" timbales.
Just let me know if a selling epiphany hits you.

Best and thanks.

Like you, I wanted that set, and bad. So I marched into the music store, and demanded it. I want it no matter what the cost! I said. I have to have it! I was lucky, as there was one set left in Canada, and it was in Vancouver. Feeling mighty proud of my self I said I'll take it! Then he told me it was about 7300 plus shipping. That's when I apologized for being drunk and quietly left the store. Welcome as well, by the way

Welcome roddswett. Good luck in your hunt. My experience of this place is that people are incredibly helpful and have long memories, so if they see/hear of stuff you are looking for they'll dig this thread out and post on it. (I see tamadude says his and tamajt's kits aren't available until they are dead. Please don't kill tamadude or tamajt for their kits: this is a pretty easy-going forum, but I think drum-related homicide might get a bad reaction.... )

Alex, I admire your 'drunk purchasing impulse' restraint. Curious to know how many beers you were away from attempting to buy it once you knew the price.

Alex, your writing is coffee-spewingly great as usual. People always run up to me and ask me if I'm ok whenever I read your posts. I felt the same way as you with your “must have” zeal. Only I had to secure one RIGHT AWAY when the Tama splashed the sig kit news for the first time. Yes, it did cost me my left ball.

Hmm. I remember hearing that the color formula was retired under lock and key for eternity, along with the small pox virus. A re-release may actually be a good thing for me though, because I’m missing three drums still. I bought the eleven piece kit; just could not stretch that much more at the time. I had a chance to get the final three drums last year when Jeremy alerted me that they were on ebay, but I could not pull the trigger fast enough, and someone else scooped them up. Jeremy has the full meal deal 14 piece. However if they release the color again permanently, I will have the chance to finish the kit in my own time. Plus, I’d really love to pound on a gong drum one day. My neighbors already deplore my earth shattering hobby as is.

smudge my dear, please don’t give my wife any ideas.

Sorry for jacking your thread, roddswett. It's been known to happen around here from time to time.

Cheers

I feel your pain, roddswett! When I saw that there was one left at Guitar Center Chicago, I was ready to become a criminal. I even considered buying the gouged bass drum on ebay a while back, just to have even one drum.

To me, the only color that even comes close to being as cool as Police Blue Sparkle would be the Chameleon (sp?) Sparkle that they offered briefly several years back, with Indigo Sparkle Fade in third place.

Zil, at least you have that snare. That thing is badass. I'd rather have that than a single PBS drum.

Oh and roddswett, I don't think this is the best place to find people willing to get rid of Copeland shit. Maybe try one of Stingk's sites...:)

Oh, I was sober at the time, just embarassed for acting so rash. So that was just the act I put on to make myself look silly and get out of it. The salesperson at least had a good laugh. Hic.

There's a bass drum head on ebay $69.99, too much for me.

Hey, good luck on your quest to find a SC kit. If you really just want a dark blue sparkle and aren't partial to Tama(not trying to talk you out of a Tama) , Yamaha makes a Maple Absolute kit in Midnight blue sparkle. I have seen this in person and is the closest thing to the PBS finish. Just FYI. You can custom order any size from a Yamaha dealer. Hope that helps. Good luck. Jeremy

Tamadude, are you talking about the green snare in my avatar or the Sig? The green one is pretty killer. I have to put an Evans Genera head on it because it darned near took my head off the last time I hit it!

Someday, I will get Stewart to sign the inside...(cue flying pigs)

I don't own 20 kits.... 14! Oddly the Blue Sparkle (standard) replica kit that I ordered about 3 months before the actual signature kits came out (exact same sizes of all 14 drums except my bass drum is a 16" x 22" instead of an 18" x 22") was not the kit Stewart wanted to play on Letterman. He opted for most of my brand new SC Maple in Honey Gold which is actually an exact replica of Tim Alexander's "Tales From The Punchbowl" kit (except Tim's kit only had 3 octobans, mine has 4 and my 8" x 14" snare is a G Maple while his was Standard Starclassic Maple. Yes Tama made me a 22" dual sided gong bass with Sound Focus Rings, as well as a 20" Gong Bass with Sound Focus Rings). Stewart wasn't interested in playing either of the gong bass drums for the Letterman show though.

Its funny when I was ordering my Stewart "replica" the guys at Tama kept telling me that I might want to hold off, then tried to get Japan to OK the darker Blue Sparkle. I had a bunch of gigs lined up with a Police Tribute band called "The Red Light" so I had to just go ahead with the standard Blue Sparkle. I still like the color a lot. I used a 5 or 6 piece version of it on the road with Mercury Morning a few years back and always liked the way it looked.

I'm sure you'll see a Copeland signature kit on ebay sometime soon. God knows there were enough of those ugly R30 Neil Peart kits a year or so after they were released!

Thanks to all of you guys!. Now, while I wait for the holly grial, I will try to make this on my own. I have a set of starclassics ready to paint:

STEWART COPELAND DRUM SET OWNERS: which one of these colours would you say is closest to the real thing:
(PLEASE LOOK AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE, WHERE THE "COLOR SAMPLE" IS)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2z-COBAL ... 5164wt_958

I would say it is the "Cobalt blue" (probably in the "Standard" flake size) but might also be the "Deep Marine" blue or even the "Purple/blue".

Let me know what you think.
