Irene support thread

Steady rain here now. Philly news is showing the highest levels of rainfall expected literally within 3-4 miles of our house, in Mullica Hill. Glad I'm on a small rise of land, but still. We could be getting 13-15" of rain in the next 24 hours at this point. Will keep posting until we nearly inevitably lose power for a few days.

Rain estimates fluctuating...I may "just" get 8" instead of 13-15" right now, but it all depends on how things play out overnight. Our worst storm time is expected in 6-8 hours, and the county south of us already has power outages - with estimates that it could be up to a week before some people get power restored. Our lights have already been blinking on and off a bit, so I'm not optimistic.

I've filled all bathtubs with water and cooked a last big meal. My main concern now is I'm due to travel 800 miles to Atlanta on Thursday for my biggest sales show of the year. If the storm throws out my power, I can't leave my house and my cats until it's restored, so I could be out major bucks not just in lost food and potential house damage but my main revenue-producing show for the year. I'm basically fucked.

This is way OT, sockii, but (except for Miss Irene that is), y'all look to have a great view in back of y'all's home.
Heard that the power supply in Jersey most affected at shore-will you be able to get to Atlanta after all?
On web news I saw that Columbia, the "major" town a bit east of my grandma's house in NC-where my parents & 1 aunt were originally going to ride out Irene, but then went back to Durham-had a tornado touch down. ONLY 5 homes destroyed because it is all farmland and swamps out there!
The power outages are proving to be the major headache, at least in NE NC, w/ some flooding in Tidewater area of VA. Am still keeping the NorthEast Nutters in my prayers! Dirty Martini got it right-crank lights and radios rule.

We lashed ourselves to the mast and come daybreak we were still floating upright.
Seriously though, made it through with a few power flickers. My new front railing (replaced after last fall's tornado ripped the previous one out) is right where it should be. I had a little bit of water leak in the basement door but nothing major. My 86-year-old father's power is out. His basement always floods in heavy storms but I can't wet vac it with no power. I'll go over and start pushing the water toward the drains in the floor.

Glad everyone seems to be making it thru OK.

I feel like I should put my tail between my legs and slink on out of here: we lost power for about 16 hours. The only direct damage to my place was water coming in around the windows and a repeat offender from the bathroom vent.

We did have to wait in line for coffee at Wawa across from the College (although they sent the students back home) and are now going back over to a friend's home to continue helping cut up the big tree that went down across his front yard (missed 2 cars and a van; there's another tree in the back yard too there for later! ) There are LOTS of downed trees around and the further out you go from downtown Williamsburg, the more power outages you run across.

Colonial Williamsburg closed for the first time in history (Saturday and Sunday).

Still lots of crazy wind, but we're good here. Much of our town is flooded and/or without power, but we've had no power loss, no flooded street -- which is really odd, but rain has just begun again, so I may have to take that one back later. I won't be surprised if we lose power later: lots of trees have come down, and a few might still. But besides some lack of sleep, we're just fine.

My dad got to spend some time in his basement when a tornado touched down 4 miles from his house, but now he's enjoying a blue and sunny day in South NJ.

LT, I hope your clean-up is speedy. Glad you're okay.
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

Another natural disaster and noserious damage. We got LOTS of rain in the DC area but the only water that got on the inside of our house was the water in cup that our son Sam spilt.

No major tree parts fell, just twigs.

We had power throughout. Several stop ights are without power in the area but we have been fine.

Earthquake, Stewart performance (that I missed), hurricane. Quite a week. I hope next week it is only Stewart's drumming that makes things shake.

I am gad to hear that LT made it through OK. I hope bella did aso since she, like LT, are close to where Irene hit.
SC-There are a few crazy people on this planet. Sure sign of that is that they kinda like my music

Bella checked in on FB and she's fine. So glad this wasn't worst case for everybody. (I'm jealous - our power goes out constantly, even in a light breeze, just about...but would much rather hear that people hardly were affected than that somebody had a tree fall on the roof.)

Paging EQ: how are vermontfan and family doing? Flooding in VT sounds pretty awful. ('Course they could have moved to Zanzibar or Idaho in the last few years for all I know, but if they are in VT hope all is well for them.)

My old boss, who now lives in Sounth Burlington w/ his family, said that they in that part of VT were fine, a 'wild ride', but ok there. My cousin's wife, they live in Caldwell NJ, posted lot's of nice big old trees down in their neighborhood, none on them but some of other homes not so lucky!
Here's the important qestion, Has anyone heard how sockii and vespa are faring now? I know this was a monster week for her WITHOUT ol' Irene.

Hey, thanks for asking and sorry I was slow in updating here (it was kind of frantic and then a few days of massive exhaustion to deal with.)

We were somehow spared a lot of potential trouble here. Very high winds and rain yet only a little bit of water in our basement, and by some miracle our electric flickered a few times but never went out fully. I don't know how we managed that as a lot of folks around us are still dealing with power outages. Some local roads are still flooded, though, and just a few miles from us a woman did die Sunday morning from getting swept away in her car. Very sad story:

http://www.nj.com/salem/index.ssf/2011/ ... lem_c.html

I just got back from checking my property in Philly today and I was amazed that there was no signs of water damage or flooding. So I guess I owe my contractor a beer for all the roofing and brickwork he did for me last year.

Now I've got one more day to get ready for Dragon*Con....ACK!!!!!
