East Coast peeps...everyone ok?

I've never been thru an earthquake before but I hear Virginia was the epicenter...Conroy you ok? We had about 20-30 seconds of rumbling in South Jersey and I lost a few glasses but everything else seems ok.

They're saying either 5.8 or 6.0.

I'd just come in from getting lunch and felt the shakin' ! Everyone started running out of the building.

We're OK though. I'd only ever been in one in San Diego that woke me up.

fine here but scared shitless. The epicenter is near a nuke plant which is unnerving.

5.9 is the official word here. Wow! There's a first time for everything...who would have thought.

I've been told by my co-worker that there is a fault line in Hanover County (which is probably where Mineral, Virginia, the epicenter-- lies).

PS both reactor's at the nuclear plant shut down.

Felt it here in pittsburgh (not fun to be in a tall, 100 yr old skyscraper which is not built to withstand such things). Building swayed, stuff moved & we all got the hell out. time for a drink!

Hope everyone is OK.
I know how you feel. Born and raised in Los Angeles, I have 40 + years experience with Earthquakes.
I was less than 10 miles from the epicenter in Northridge in ’94, will never forgot it and never want to live through that again.
Have we got touchdown

Well, the central part of Virginia does get quakes in the 5 to lo 5's from time to time-my Dad remember felling a slight soe=mething and then watching a fine crack head up from the fireplace toward the ceiling years ago. I called them from work and they were "too busy" out getting peaches-they live in Amherst Co., west of epicenter-to notice. Besides, Dad is a Jersey boy WW2 vet, so I guess it takes more than that   Next they are heading off to family reunion in eastern NC, just in time for Hurricane Irene  !
I have heard of some cars up in Tyson's Corner in NoVA being smashed by falling bricks, a bummer, and then folks were calling in to a Richmond radio sation I listen to over web. These were all Louisea Co. folks who had furniture fall, cabinet doors open and the contents slide out. And the Nukes up at Lake Anna are so far so good. The engineers there put them to 'sleep' as soon as this happened.
After Northern Japan's event this past spring, I have to say all inconveniences, no loss of life. Still, pretty scary! There is also this weird slight quake event that happens every year w/in a 48 hour period under one of the mountain ridges just west of Blacksburg. You could go over to the Geophysics bldg. at school and watch the seismograph get set off, very curious.
Glad to hear that folks are safe, all in all.
Good thing we have the Letterman Drum Event to forward to, just in time!!!
Take care, folks!

My family and I are doing fine in the DC area.

A few things fell at home, including a poster frame in my son's room that shattered. Some serious cracks in the plaster at work but hopefully it is superficial.

Plenty scary but not horrible.

Traffic hell on the way home though.

Shimmy-swaying building and 40 flights down on foot have me weak-kneed and a bit nauseous, but otherwise fine. Second train was restricted to 10 miles/hour, so it was a long ride home.

Glad to see folks are okay.
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

Literally our whole house was shaking and I was pretty paranoid about a very large piece of Italian ceramics falling on my head as it was bouncing off the wall quite a bit - that and some of vespa's artwork! But everything made it thru ok.

Also a bit of a freak out as we live only about 20 miles or so from the Salem NJ nuclear plants...I heard they were shut down after the earthquake for testing and evaluations but everything seems ok. NJ hasn't had an earthquake over 5.0 in over 100 years, so yeah it's a bit of a big thing around here, right now.

Friends of mine who reported aftershocks about 10 minutes ago. I was out and about running some errands in my car so I didn't feel it. They're also reporting gas leaks down in Fredericksburg and have started to evacuate some people from their homes. It's going to be a long night.
