Thanks for your concern folks. Do bear in mind that what you're seeing is small bits of London and other cities getting trashed. It's horrendous, but it isn't everywhere.

Jan - I hope Kimmy's ok too!

thanks for messages.

working for Youth Justice and with young offenders, some of whom we think breached their curfews last night and were involved in some way.... we have police in my room and work closely with them... unfortunately there is lots that isn't being reported; robberies and muggings on innocents and injured, fire crews being threatened with guns, a childrens hospital being attacked in bristol, police stations petrol bombed etc etc. Unfortunately last night it seems it was becoming increasingly mindless and anarchistic... problem is that if there isn't a cause there is no justification which makes it extremely hard to tackle.... a number of my friends and colleagues are staying away from their homes in Ealing and Clapham 'cos they don't feel safe.... one found herself staring at a rioter in her garden last night, he was about 14.
disturbances too further south of london in Surrey (where i am; gin and jaguar country, greenbelt, leafy etc) in redhill, woking, hurst green, kingston, kids travelling from croydon by train to kick off in other places, so the trains were cancelled.....
all police leave has been cancelled with SPU (special patrol units) coming out in force tonight.. warnings to parents to keep their children indoors... one police colleague who was out last night said that they have been told to employ "old school" policing which doesn't bode well.

God Bless and keep y'all all safe, smax. I keep praying for and about the folks involved, safety for the innocent, cooler hearts and minds for those in the middle of it all.
Here in Cincinnati, we had much milder version of this sort of thing back in early 2001. Folks wanted to call it all kinds of titles, but in the end, most of the real damage was done by out of town folks looking for free shoes, etc....
The Mediterranean grocer at the city market got his window smashed(he was next door to a cHipHop clothing store)-and then the local folks in the mob stopped everyone, and appologized to the owner, which was cool, but why were they throwing rockes to begin? The spirit of The Fool....
Stay safe, and remeber the Nutters have you in their Good Thoughts.

smax, I guess this is job security, eh? Are you a public employee? They'll probably make you redundant anyway. Hope not.

Thanks for the thoughts for us UK peeps.

Here in Kingston, which is about 12 miles from the centre of London, all seems quiet at the moment. Yesterday it was just a constant soundtrack of sirens heading towards Clapham and Croydon.

I work in Chiswick and the building opposite from mine (Disney), which we give technical support to, was looted by thugs wielding iron bars. They threatened the staff and stole about £65,000 worth of kit. Just total scum.

Hoping that all my UK Nutter pals are safe xx

You're all in my thoughts and prayers, especially front line folks like kimmy and smax. It is indeed difficult to find a solution to a problem that seems to have no cause. Here's hoping for a quick and lasting fix nonetheless.
