Yet another awful Top Album list...

Yet another awful Top Album list...

Just passing this along for your amusement and expected bitching. Comments from the peanut gallery, anyone?

---

At a time when CD sales are wobbling like Britney Spears, the National Association of Record Manufacturers and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have fought back with a celebration of the greatest albums ever.

The two organizations yesterday released "The Definitive 200," a list of 200 albums they think every popular-music fan should own. To no one's shock, Nos. 1, 2 and 3 are the Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper," Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" and Michael Jackson's "Thriller."

omigawd--haha--prepare for a music geek debate (brings popcorn): where to start, where to start...what was the criteria stated for ranking, if I can ask? That could at least help with a starting point! (still scrolling :)

Edit: ok just looking at top 20 if its going to include a Metallica album should be Ride the Lightning, imho!

God only knows...it seems much more driven by sales numbers than actual quality, if you ask me...

(ditto Gina's initial Shania Twain comment, as well as her other observations) And Nelly before the Clash??!!

Good grief. I couldn't even finish reading the list.

It's obvious that "lists" sell, everyone's doing it and it gets people talking, BUT who the heck is making these lists?! ESPECIALLY THIS ONE!
Who would put No Doubt in front of Bob Marley? I don't think No Doubt themselves would have the ...um...er......gumption to do something this crazy. Creed even being on the list is shocking, sorry to the Creed fans- but this is The Definitive 200.
Okay- I'll step off the box.

Quite possibly the worst list of its kind. There's no criteria that could possibly explain some of the choices on that list. One would like to think that someone would have done a comparison like GinaSuperCat did and say to themselves, "Wait a sec, Twain ahead of Gaye? Wait another sec, Twain on here in the first place?"

Totally subjective I know but geeze...Well, if they wanted discussion then I guess they've got it.

The Rolling Stone list is a bit more impressive.. and realistic. This is a joke when it breaks away from the top 20.

And the best album of all time, perfection wise, is The Stooges-Raw Power.

It is so perfect in every sense, I just can't explain it.

Rush at 198 with 2112???

Hello? Moving Pictures? How many more people know "Tom Sawyer" over anything from 2112? Once you get past "Overture," the album's a piece of (beep). Arrgghh!

Ok, now I'm done.

They make it, with Synchronicity? That was their worst album!

And Dark Side of the Moon, is at number two? Everyone knows The Wall is the best thing Pink Floyd has ever done.
