From a previous thread:

This was how he intro'd Animal Logic @ The Roxy 6/22/89 - from my own personal recording...

"Ladies and Gentlemen. (extremely loud applause) Ladies and Gentlemen. Tonight! Tonight, on this stage - you are about to see, what can only be described as a manifestation of God! (more loud applause) A manifestation of God, ladies and gentlemen, because - these three men and one woman - are NOT like you or I. They are, in fact, messengers of God! (more rowdy crowd noise) So holy are they, that in fact one of them - whose initials are SC... (extremely loud screaming & cheering) ...actually knows Buddha personally! Ladies and Gentlemen, will you please welcome - the most holy - the most Godly - Animal Logic!!!!"
(thunderous noise as they launch into Someone To Come To)

ahhhh, the good old days.

You're 1000% right Gio. And it's not just a book for anyone who has a band, it's a book for the entire entertainment industry. This I think would be almost like a self help book for anyone interested in a job in any aspect of the entertainment industry. Miles has an uncanny ability to make people listen to him, scare them a little in such a way that they second guess themself if they don't take his advice on the spot. I'd let him clean out my bank account for his advice (haha, that's not saying much though)

Gio,

I have to say that I also missed Miles for his marketing and promotions savvy on the reunion tour but "the machine" certainly did fine on its own. I guess there was an unfortunate falling out between Miles and Sting/Mrs. Sting around Mercury Falling and I wonder if it ever got fully patched up. I would've wanted to hear Miles introduce The Police at the rehearsal concert. "Ladies and Gentlemen, for the first time in 23 years, it's time for number one!! Please welcome THE POLICE!!!!" I was very happy to hear Miles introduce Sting at a private concert in Dallas over the last year or so in a bootleg so maybe things aren't so bad between the two as imagined.

Alex,
Some good nutter put up a few links to youtube videos featuring Miles talking about marketing, the music industry, etc. It is very interesting stuff in terms of the reasoning behind the Jaguar commercial and songwriting in general. I think you'd love it.

Finally, I've had the pleasure of meeting the holy Copeland trio and at the time, I would've characterized Miles as "Grumpy Copeland" but he was polite enough to give me the time to chat briefly. He's not exactly an easily approachable guy like Ian or Stewart. Maybe I was just intimidated from watching all those Police/Sting videos all these years. Think of the "I'm just a peasant" rant in Bring On The Night. All three brothers are truly amazing storytellers and getting Miles' perspective on The Police (and all the other bands in his IRS stable) would be incredible.

Please do write your memoirs Miles!!Wasn't there a thought that you were writing a Marketing/Business book as well?
Gio, I hope Miles does jump on here and read all the positive comments. I really miss Uncle Ian and his forum. Maybe he would agree to answer some questions from us? The whole story has not been told.

Much nutter love from Canada,
Chris

I would say he was very "stand off-ish". I tried to talk with him at a Sting concert at the Greek in '93. I was brushed away like a flea. By comparison, Stewart was also at that show and couldn't have been nicer.

Instead of THE STEWART COPELAND MONTH thread, looking at some other post, I bet we can easily turn this into the MILES COPELAND month.....I do declare that JUNE can be the Miles Copeland month, we should all have our avatar with a Miles pic...maybe we will have him checking our post, and you never know, maybe he will comment or post something...I'll post a new post about the Miles Copeland month.

Hey guys, long time no see (well for some of you, anyway!)
Just wanted to add my .02 worth to this. Indeed a book by Miles would be most welcome, and, just think--what other band would have books written by ALL the members, including one who left, plus agent and manager? How can Miles NOT write a book? This is a no-brainer.

I think a book from Miles would be awesome. Jose had already posted links to some nuggets from Miles.

I had the chance to see Miles when I was visiting Dee and people of the Outlandos fan club at Noel Street in London back in 1993.
His office was at the second floor and he made a furtive appearence at the fan club's office.
I was so impressed and surprised that I couldn't say a word except "hello"... I wouldn't have the time to chat anyway, as he was in such a hurry !

I've been waiting for a book by Miles for years. I've talked to him a couple of times at Belly Dance Superstar events; 2 years ago he said he was "about 35% finished" with his book. Last year he said he was more to write about his political views, which is what I am most interested in anyway. He's a very easy and interesting person to talk with and extremely knowledgeable and articulate. Anyone who's interested in his writing should subscribe to his online magazine "AND". It's a really great publication, very comprehensive.
