"Shit, that must have been fuckin' awesome. We weren't even BORN then." Thanks guys.....

That's on a par with me overhearing my daughters teenage friends refer to me as 'The old dear'. I was 38 at the time.

Have to say though, I expect this concert was quite 'fuckin' awesome' as well.
It was pretty darn good. Tonight at Dingwalls was even better :-) I don't think it was on a par with Empty's 3-hours-and-entire-first-album experience (that sounded like a real gem): it was a last minute announcement but no queuing - just online ticketing/pick up at venue - so the chattering classes were out in force, and I think a lot of good folk who would have loved to be there missed out. That said, we got the whole new album (which is a barnstormer). And then we got 90 minutes of everything else. At this point if you name a song I'll swear blind they played it - hard to separate the 'what I'd love the Foos to play if I saw them in a small club' from what they actually played. (I'm a bit giddy at the moment). I am certain about Aurora though. I don't know if that makes it into the set list on a regular basis, but it it.just.shimmered. I'm now completely ruined for any future Foos gig. And the guy on the door at Dingwalls thinks I'm a complete loon - I asked him to pinch me on my way out, just to be sure I hadn't imagined it.....

Thanks EQ! I think that's what was broadcast on radio in Germany last night.

This is Bridge Burning from Dingwalls in London on Saturday. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDtahQP8olA (not from me - I was in the middle-aged section further back) Beware f-bombs at the beginning if watching at work.

Sound isn't great, but it's a fun (though Dave-centric) watch.

And here's Hey Johnny Park from later on. http://www.youtube.com/user/a1999f#p/u/11/DX2ytOXGryU by which point everyone was a bit, erm, soggier.

Wish I could find a little bit of Pat Smear footage. He was an absolute joy to watch. I swear he was the happiest looking guy in the room, and since most of us were ecstatic that's saying something.

Smudge! Just saw this and must say, am pleased as punch you got to those shows and had such a great time! It's all about the secondhand joy- still. :)

Dingwalls must have been fab! been there many a time, and it's such a tiny hole. For a girl who grew up seeing AMAZING bands in a tiny hole (DC's original 9:30 club), that's exactly the kind of place to see a band play raw.

I too feel spoiled. But I know I'll go see this Tourzilla a few times too. My girls are dying to go. Gladly tho, I stocked up on $10 (!) tshirts at the Troub gig.

Thanks EQ. I may have to start collecting gigs.

Haha! Dingwalls is a more comfortable hole than I remember from of old. The loos flush!!! It's still deafening, sweaty, and lacking in decent ale, but frankly, that was (as you rightly identified in your 9:30 reference) a little punk gig. So it's supposed to be deafening, sweaty, and lacking in decent ale. It also shouldn't even have had working loos - though that's a bit of 80's authenticity I'm happy to consign to history.

There's some small-club excitement underway in Stockholm right now, and the lovely swedish foo board people posted this link to a local interview. Even if you are not particularly interested in this band's music it is worth a listen. Great stuff about the recording process, and the decision to go for tape. I'm not a musician, but I've watched someone piece together a track digitally, and that isn't music to me: it's an interesting intellectual exercise. Music should be like people - analogue, imperfect, human. (rant over, here's the link - http://www.bandit.se/webbradio/frameset ... io&id=3948 )

I will say that for East Coast fans, if they don't play a small club out this way it's well worth seeing them at the Borgata Music Box in Atlantic City. They always seem to play there every major tour and it's leagues better than seeing them in a huge arena; still a smaller room and easy to get up close to the front if you get there a little bit early; I've seen the Foos there twice with vespa and loved it both times.

Foo Fighter documentary "Back and Forth" premires on April 8, 2011 on VH1, VH1 Classic and Palladia.

In addition to Wasting Light being released on April 12, they wil release an album of covers called Medium Rare on April 16 (Record Store Day). It is unclear to me whether this will be a vinyl only release. The track list:

1. "Band on the Run" (Paul McCartney and Wings cover)
2. "I Feel Free" (Cream cover)
3. "Life of Illusion" (Joe Walsh cover)
4. "Young Man Blues" (Mose Allison/ The Who cover)
5. "Bad Reputation" (Thin Lizzy cover)
6. "Darling Nikki" (Prince and The Revolution cover)
7. "Down in the Park" (Gary Numan and Tubeway Army cover)
8. "Baker Street" (Gerry Rafferty cover)
9. "Danny Says" (Ramones cover)
10. "Have a Cigar" (Pink Floyd cover)
11. "Never Talking to You Again" (Hüsker Dü cover)
12. "Gas Chamber" (Angry Samoans cover)
13. "This Will Be Our Year" (The Zombies cover)

I know firsthand from the Amoeba signing that Lara and the Foos fans are a lot of fun to hang with just like the Nutters. 8)
This is going to be a fun tour.

Very old school MTV. A contest to have the Foos play in your garage:
http://www.foofighters.com/us/news/foo- ... ur-contest

Limited to only a certain cities. Otherwise, you can enter a sweepstakes to win two tickets to a show (including travel costs), an autographed copy of the CD, and a pic with the band

Dallas over Houston? LAME. Still- that's an awesome contest. Seriously, what band today is as good and still does cool shit like this for their fans? WTH happened to today's rock music (besides Autotune)?

I love the garage contest idea (kudos to the Foos), but I do find the NYC inclusion pretty funny. Because we're all positively swimming in garages around here.

Even here in the nearby suburban 'hoods, garages: few and far between. Since my zip qualifies, I'm tempted to enter with a photo of our parking lot.
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.
