Forum passwords/logging in issues

Postby DirtyMartini on 17 Feb 2011 15:52

I know some folks have had trouble logging in here at SC.net, and I just now got kicked out for too many log-in tries, despite having tried only once (and via a saved password to boot).

In case it helps anyone else:
I found that hitting the "forgot my password" button (despite not having actually forgotten) cleared the problem up. The system sent me a new password in a few seconds, I've been able to log in and change it to my own choice, and I'm right as rain again.

Hope this helps!
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

Thanks, DM. I haven't had that problem yet. I seem to continually get the login page when I get a topic notification and the website throws me back out between threads even though I've checked "keep me logged in".

Yup. I had the same thing happen to me. I actually tried to decipher the near illegible letters they gave me to identify (with no possibility of choosing a different set of characters). It worked, but DM's solution sounds way easier.

Same thing just happened to me. I for one call for severe punishment to the site admin to make sure this never happens again!

Edited to add.... While we're at it, who put the fat guy next to my name? I'm getting a serious complex over here!

This prompted me to choose to log in automatically everytime I visit on all three of my devices in which I visit sc.net, my home computer, my work computer, and my blackberry.
SC-There are a few crazy people on this planet. Sure sign of that is that they kinda like my music

I'm still trying to get help on why, for at least the last six months or so, I no longer receive any topic notifications! :(

It definitely cuts down on the number of times I visit the board, because I no longer get those emails that tell me a thread I commented on has been updated.

Me too. It took three eye watering tries to decipher those letters. I got a bit grumpy.

Thanks DM, will try that if it happens again.

Hi folks, when stuff like this happens, please get in touch with Eugenio eugenio@stewartcopeland.net
He knows everything about this stuff, I'm not into that, but please, let him know when you experience some troubles; he knows how to sort it out.
Thanks.

I had to reset my password a week or two ago, but it was no problem. Yesterday I had to fill in one of those 'Captcha' weird letters things as well as my username and password. That worked too.

I logged in now with no problem - just username and password.

Can I make a suggestion? Eugenio looks after the security/login stuff as a volunteer, so his time is limited. If (like me) odd things happen but it works in the end, DON'T email Eugenio - just put a message here so he can take a look when he has time, and can get good information about what the problem might be. That way he will only get emails from people who can't log in at all - and sort them out. Does that sound like a sensible plan?

I had to decipher stuff to log in again today. I wouldn't mind so much if the things actually looked like characters and not bacterial cultures.

+1 on Smudge's comments re: Eugenio, but the trouble is, we can't post here if we can't get in...Just had to type no fewer than four of those CAPTCHA thingys and, like LL wasn't sure I'd get in at all b/c the characters don't look like letters. It'll be impossible on an IPhone, which types what it wants even under the best of circumstances.

I'll try the password-reset thing next time.

And! A big THANKS to Eugenio for resolving this and everything else - it's a labor of love for sure.
On Google - site:stewartcopeland.net "your keyword here" - thanks DM!!
