On a brighter note, we did enjoy some lovely sledding.

Luna_Virgo successfully avoided an accident while sliding down the road.

I trust you guys all got home safely, though? I fish tailed a couple of times. The one that got my heart going was on I75 under a bunch of overpasses. I don't think that spot had been hit by the sun as much as the open roadway had. Made it home OK though. The side streets, however, are like sheets of ice. Hans Brinker would be peeing in his pants with happiness.

Texas peeps: buy some freakin' snow plows with some of the revenue you're making off of the Super Bowl! And road salt! These freak weather patterns aren't going to go away anytime soon. And, Samburu's not coming back anytime soon! Bah humbug! I'm going back north where people drive like assholes on our plowed roads because they think they're impervious to injury in their giant SUV's. I must say at least the Texans know they don't know how to drive in snow. Thus I didn't see alot of assholes hurtling by me on the highway like I would at home.

Met the Knight's Inn crew for Texas BBQ earlier before our sliding escapades. Mmmmm mmmmm. Boy howdy. That was good. Now if only I could hear some gamelan music....

I was so bummed for you guys when I saw the news making the rounds on Facebook earlier. Crap. And I worried those of you on the East Coast would have trouble getting OUT.

I hope all goes well tomorrow. Enjoy your buttfaces!

Sending you all (and the musicians) a hearty "Oh BOLLOCKS!" from the UK. Hope you're salvaging some good times (and good stories) from the situation, but gutted for you all.

It's not the sliding escapades that get you, it's the sliding Escalades. And if you really want sliding with style, skip the escapades and go straight for the Ice Capades.

Texans CAN'T drive in this shit. I know--I grew up in Wisconsin. I was passing everyone last night to and from my gig. As far as plows--good idea, but the road salt is out because they don't treat cars down here like they do up North to keep them from rusting. Instead Texas uses sand which may keep one from sliding, but it doesn't get rid of the ice on the road.

So far, the gig is on. Today's forecast is for a balmy 38 degrees. But at least there isn't any freakin' snow included! Hope to see you later!

Oh that stinks. Stewart must be disappointed as well. I hope it all works out well tonight. Maybe there will be an audio recording or dvd so it won't really be a one time performance.

Not sure about a DVD or audio recording. D'Drum has been doing a lot of filming, I can tell you that. As I said a while back, the plan is to hopefully perform this in several cities with different local orchestras, so more of you could (hopefully) see this piece live.

But, we need to get the premiere out of the way, of course. Right now the sun is out and snow is slowly melting. I'm about to get on the road myself so I can see how things look in the daytime.

Well, *fingers crossed* we're on.

We have a reservation at 6 pm at Jorge's which is in the One Arts Plaza, http://www.jorgestexmex.com/

They have a yummy looking menu, are very close, have a shuttle to the venue (though it is across the road) and umm, tequila?

A few of us are going to hit the Dallas Museum of Art beforehand as well to make up for the cultural deficit of the cancelled shows.

a very tentative "woooooo!"

Our gamelan groove has been gotten on...finally! But was it ever worth the wait. We were blown away, as was the rest of the audience. I'm very tired, so I won't get into all the details now, but suffice to say this concert was a phenomenal success. Stewart and D'Drum are and should be very proud, and there will be more performances of this for sure as any smart symphony orchestra will want to perform Stewart's piece with D'Drum as guest artists. The standing ovation and three curtain calls proved to me that the piece is amazing even to unbiased non-Nutter types.
I'll tell you all the adventures of the Nutterious Dallas Five when I get back home tomorrow.
Oh, and of course, Stewart's point reflexes are as sharp as ever.
In Dallas, the only game that really mattered was in the word gamelan.

As LL said, we FINALLY got our gamelan groove on. Had 2 false labors but the Gamelan D'Drum baby was born tonight.
Just some thoughts before I pack and hit the sack. I've got some pics that I'll post soon.
It was awesome! Wish I could have heard it again. There were so many nuances and little things you'd pick up on with repeated listenings.
D'drum was fantastic and there were a ton of really cool instruments on stage. They were a bunch of affable fellows.
Luna Virgo is going to bed with a smile on her face tonight.
I think Stewart appreciated his Nutters stucking around and representing.
Maestro van Zweden reminds us of someone we all know and Stewart got a big chuckle when I pointed that out to him.

Very cool piece Stewart!! Hope D'Drum does take it on the road and play it with other orchestras.
I'll come out and hear it again.

Wow! Unbelievable piece and performance! Just want to say that I'm sorry I did not get to meet any of the Nutters that came to town--this has been a crazy past few days for me, especially with being sick. I almost didn't make it tonight, but very glad that I did. Did anyone happen to look up at the box seats where Stewart was and see another band member sitting with him? Oysterhead, folks, not The Police. That was quite cool to see.

I hope that those who traveled have a safe trip back; I'm anxiously awaiting any sort of video/audio release and will keep up with John Bryant on that aspect. If anything, a "making of" doc will see the light of day somehow. I have a few pics of the stage which I'll share somehow.

They would be stupid not to take this on the road, much less do repeat performances with the DSO. Maybe a summer performance next time? This place is pretty cool in warmer weather. I hope those who came here had a good time despite the snow and ice. Way to stick it out!

Now, what's this coughing I'm hearing? Need to investigate....
