Time to Get Our Gamelan Groove On!

I am reading this and thinking you guys are going to have a blast! This weather mess is only going to add to the excitement. You'll be like kids at camp and be planning a reunion next year in some snowbound place. These are stories you will tell your grandkids !

I guess I can look at this as my Nutter initiation. Trial by ice!

I made it to a convenience store about half a mile from the hotel, so now I have sandwiches for my hunger and beer for my boredom. I really hope I can get out and go somewhere tomorrow.

Forget about the grandkids, right now I'm trying to reassure my dad and kids that everything will be fine. This huge storm is even going to hit Toronto this time. For two years now (almost to the day) Toronto has been spared every major weather system that has made for record miserable winters in the US North East. They have all passed just south of us. Not this one. It looks like all us heading for Dallas are going to be affected by this one. Good luck, conroy as you try to fly out on Wed. The rest of us are flying out on Thurs. when things should be all cleared up. However, I'm afraid we'll still be messed up due to a backlog of flights from the day of the storm.

Holy snow plough! I just heard on the radio that this storm will stretch from New Mexico to Newfoundland!

I think I've got e-mails for all my fellow travellers. I'll send you all my cell phone number via the internet a little later. I think it's important that we keep in touch from our various departure points.
Thanks for checking in, luna. It's good to know somebody is already there safe and sound. (Well, as safe and sound as one can be in a Knights Inn.) Hang in there. The Nutter reinforcements will get there sooner or later. And we'll bring more chocolat.
In Dallas, the only game that really mattered was in the word gamelan.

[quote="samburusunset"]Oy Vey! The Dallas airport was closed until a little while ago!
Not only us, but I hope The Maestro can get there!!

Stewart should've arrived before the storm hit. They started rehearsals yesterday with the Dallas Symphony and I'm told Stewart was to attend. I had an invitation to go but didn't quite make it. Am kicking myself now because I could've given you guys a preview and update. Please don't hate the messenger.

Right now I'm stuck inside my house and this wind will not stop blowing. Thursday it's supposed to be 28 degrees outside but hopefully the roads will be clear.

This is a post from Ed Smith of D'Drum (this also appears on the SC Facebook page), which confirms that Stewart was in town before the storm hit:

"Great first day on the Meyerson stage with D'Drum! Stewart Copeland hanging with us all day working with balances of sound. Maestro Jaap van Zweden just flew in from Holland today to have a late afternoon rehearsal with us before the full orchestra tomorrow. He just happen to bring a film crew from Holland TV to document the moment (dare I say Concertgebouw here we come.........NAW!!!!). We had our own film crew (yes, we are pompous enough to document this entire process, luckily we have great film makers as friends) so the stage was abound with cameras following the movement of our pangguls. Everybody's energy levels jumped a couple of notches. We are on Channel 8 morning program with Stewart tomorrow (Tuesday) morning sometime after 9am."

I will definitely be keeping up with the guys to see when how and where D'Drum's video will be released. When I met Stewart at the studio back in May, D'Drum had a cameraman there so they have quite a lot of footage.

Holy crap! That's terrible, luna! I hope none of the black outs roll your way.
As for me, they closed all the schools today because of the storm so I get the day off to pack. Where I live there isn't really that much accumulation and the worst of it seems to be over. This looks hopeful for everything being back to normal at the airport tomorrow morning.
Stewart, next time you have a world premier of a concerto for gamelan, hold it in June, okay?

Yes, please!! Birmingham or Atlanta would be nice.

So far the power has gone out here twice, but only for a few minutes each time. Unfortunately one of those times I was in the shower.

I've been monitoring the airports. Balto to Atlanta looks clear and DFW is pretty much operating normally.
It looks f'ing cold though! 13 degrees!

Rolling black outs?! Texas doesn't seem prepared to deal with fluctuating weather patterns!

Yes, Stewart, Savannah in March was nice! La Jolla in the summer likewise.
OR, how 'bout Baltimore in the spring or fall!? We've got alot of culcha and a lovely symphony hall.
