Time to Get Our Gamelan Groove On!

I'm sure Stewart will be brought on stage for curtain call even though he's not performing. Unfortunate that some are deciding not to go b/c he's not actually playing. Keep in mind that he's doing a "meet and greet" on Friday. Also remember that Stewart wrote the piece and didn't have himself perform--certainly not anyone else's decision.

D'Drum is also hoping that this piece will eventually be performed around the country with different local orchestras.

The whole thing was just too cool to pass up. Original Stewart composition. Gamelan. Live Orchestra. D'drum. Duh. And all the teasers we've heard so far are practically Pavlovian in engaging my anticipation to hear the piece. What's not to like about the whole package even if Stewart is not performing? I still would have gone even if Stewart was not going to be present because I think this piece will be worth the trip to hear in person despite the superbowl frenzy. But the most important reason to go for me: hanging with the other nutters who are going.

Honestly while I would LOVE to see it, it's just way too expensive for me to justify flying from New Jersey and all the expenses involved if it's not for Stewart actually performing. That's not a diss against D'Drum. If the piece comes closer to the Jersey/PA/New York area I'll happily go to see/hear it, no matter who is performing or not performing. But I can't personally justify flying to Dallas right now on my budget for a 35-minute piece that doesn't feature Stewart actually performing (and even then, I probably still wouldn't be able to justify it right now, either...)

yeah, the 'not being made of money' thing really sucks! Sock, let's start buying lottery tickets...

I am d*y*i*n*g to travel to Oz to see Paul Kelly do a five-night alpha set in January, especially now that I've read his supremely awesome recent autobio ( http://www.penguin.com.au/products/9781 ... rel-memoir ). But I just can't swing it right now....I'm starting a business and it's not only money but time that I have in short supply at the moment. (At least I can write some of the costs off my income taxes...what I wouldn't give for one of those time-turner gizmos from the Potter movies, tho....)

Hey Empty, do you still have space in your room for Friday night? If Stewart’s doing a meet & greet Friday I don’t want to miss it, but I only have a room through Thursday night. You can email me at Shydaniels at att dot net.

I finally bought my airline ticket! The big question now is...What should I wear??? The second performance is on "Casual Friday", and Horacio (the DSO ticket guy) assured me that jeans would be fine. But what about the other performances? I often go to the ballet here, and it seems that almost anything goes these days. Many people, myself included sometimes, dress like every day is Casual Friday. Is the symphony any different, especially when it comes to a world premier? I may have to buy an item or two in order to raise the sophistication quotient of my wardrobe. Ah well. At least the prices are right at this time of year.

I'm in!!

List so far:
1.Conroy(woooo)
2.Empty
3. LudditeLady
4. Luna_Virgo
5. Samburusunset

I haven't been to an actual Stewart event in, my God, over a year. Surprised I haven't gone thru the DT's.

Anywho, I've got my plane and hotel reservations and I've rented a car. I don't know the deets off hand. I know it's not the Knight's Inn. But, I've got extra space if someone wants to share. Give me a shout. amyp22 @ juno . com

My show tickets arrived in the mail last week. Squeee! It would be kool if he played but it's a world premiere of a new composition! Woooooooooo!

I haven't really had a vacay this year and there's talk of the Ravens possibly heading to the Superbowl so it would be doubly fun to be there in the midst of that. If that happens I'm going to have to take an extra suitcase to bring home Superbowl booty for my football crazy buds.

I am a definite no.

I would love to hear this premiere with an orchestra and a lot of drums. And to see my nutter friends again is always a great thrill.

But the bigger family makes such things much harder than they were when I went to La Jolla 2 weeks before our son was born. (He is adopted and we didn't know he was coming our way.)

I hope you have a great time and record the event.

So which nights will everyone be attending? I have tickets for Thursday and Friday.

Any thoughts on getting together for lunch or dinner? I'll be there a couple of days before the shows, so I can try to find a good place.

I'm arriving on Thursday afternoon and attending all three shows. I'm, of course, up for a Nutter get together or two. Any suggestions from a local (Hi, Dane!) would be greatly appreciated.

I'm arriving Thursday afternoon and attending all three shows, as well. We definitely need to get together for some dinners or something. I'm also in for some sightseeing. I know there's a shitload of stuff, but don't know what people might be interested in. Also know coordinating Nutters is like herding cats! So, if anyone's got any ideas toss them on the table.

Folks! The show is now two weeks from tonight and D'Drum needs your help in further promotion for this as well as their Facebook page. They would love for you to become a fan, tell your friends about it and also get on their mailing list (via their site www.pureddrum.com). A new mailer is about to go out with some final info and the local interviews will start soon with the band and Stewart himself.

The Facebook page:

As far as places to eat or get together, I'll get back to you ASAP. I'm just now reading the posts from others about get togethers, etc. I don't live in the city proper (I'm 45 minutes North), but a Nutter get together would be great!

Wow! Only two weeks to go?!? I didn't realize how little time there is until the concerts.
Thanks for the info, Dane. I signed up on the mailing list and explored the D'Drum site a little. If you all are into exotic drum porn, you gotta check out the site. It's a veritable percussive pleasure palace.

I checked the Dallas Symphony site, too, and there's still quite a lot of tickets available for any of you who might be thinking of making last minute travel plans.
