Santa was good to me this year

Santa, aka my mom, gave me Lynn Goldsmith's The Police: 1978-1983 for Christmas.

Another cool gift was season 5 of Star Trek: The Next Generation, so I have lots of eye candy to keep me occupied.

What cool stuff did you get/give this year?

A crapload of CDs and DVDs (Devo, Springsteen, among others); art supplies; actual art (some Audubon prints from my auntie)...

And! 'Strange Pleasures and Further Sounds of the Decca Underground..."

With none other than the lovely & talented Sonja Kristina on the cover. (The Curved Air track is "Marie Antoinette")

vespapod and I vowed to not exchange gifts this year. Getting our house early this year was gift (and expense!) enough. Mom and I agreed on the same.

I find the holidays a LOT more enjoyable and meaningful when freed of commercial gift-giving expectations.

I got my first ipod (yeah, I know I waited way too long!), a Kindle, and a digital photo frame. All designed to save space in my house!

Pullet Surprise & I realized last night it's possible to play tourney Scrabble on two linked IPads (I got one for my birthday, Santa put Andy's in his stocking...) Guess nobody will be hearing from us much over the coming months...:P

I agree on the space-saving, Kim. I've actually gone to downloading albums that I don't know much about or that aren't classics (all my Police/solo Police member vinyl will be staying, of course).

Re: gift giving: I have a prohibitively huge family (by prohibitively I mean I can't possibly buy gifts for everyone - my parents had twelve siblings, they all have kids, my husband has five sisters w/kids, etc...I have no idea how many direct relatives I have but it's likely in the three digits...I even have great aunts once removed & stuff.) So I make cookies for a lot of 'em...not with an expectation, just like doing it...but then I'm nuts about Xmas cards, too....and I got a LOT this year!! YAY!

I do buy gifts for the kids. Found pink and purple Lite Brites for my oldest friend's twin girls this year...I hear they were a hit.

Your Mom is awesome, smax! It is the great hope and prayer of every mother that both she and her child live long enough that she can give such ridiculous gifts with complete impunity. I sense Mother Smax will be a role model to me in my declining years.
In the meantime, I still have to give my kids real and meaningful gifts for Christmas. Tops among them this year was The Boy's birthday/Christmas gift of a red and white strat by Squire (think Fender with training wheels) so he can emulate his first and foremost guitar hero, Andy Summers. It was upon seeing Andy playing with The Police in Saratoga that my son, at the tender age of nine, became impassioned by the guitar. So, I blame Andy. I wonder if I could send him the bill.
The best present I got myself, though my son thinks it's for him, was headphones that plug into the guitar's amp.
In Dallas, the only game that really mattered was in the word gamelan.
