The Runaways

The Runaways

Did anyone see this movie? I watched it last night. Kristen Stewart is a dead ringer for Joan Jett, and really nails her mannerisms! I knew Joan was in the Runaways but I didn't really know the story. The movie was based on Cherie Currie's book, and was produced by Joan. I had no idea they were teenagers. Holy jail bait! They kicked some butt too. It's a shame that there haven't been more all women kick butt bands since then. All I can think if is the Bangles and the Go-Go's, but they were more pop than rock.

Conroy, Joan's last name is actually Larkin, so she's not your long lost cousin after all!!

L7 was pretty awesome in the early 90's, and there were all those Riot Grrrl bands back then too. And the Indigo Girls, if you like granola (which I do, occasionally). It seems like there were a lot more women in music in the 90's. Now we have crap like the Pussycat Dolls. What the hell happened?

luscious jackson were / are damn fine at points.

the slits from the late 70's, anyone? famous for a nudie album cover and not much else....

lots of Britpop / shitpop UK bands which although not all 'birds' (ducks) had their fair share of females; primitives, sleeper, elastica, echobelly, voice of the beehive, lush, slowdive, kenickie.....

I knew Joan but I haven't heard of "The Runaways"
until my daughter asked me to take her to the movie.

I quite liked it! Felt a bit sorry for Cherie Currie.

Hi! Kim!

The popularity in Japan was Cherie Currie.
I was a fan of Sandy in those days......RIP
I like voices of the Cherie.

All of the Runaways girls went to my high school in the San Fernando Valley. Before me, although I think my older sister knew one or two of them.

Jane Weidlin (sp?) of The Go-Go's lived very close to where I grew up. I remember riding my bike with my friend down her street and hearing the girls playing in her parent's garage. Good times!

Cool!

Upon further reflection, I thought of a few women in rock today that kick ass, although they aren't in all women bands:

Amy Lee of Evanescense
Hailey Williams of Paramore
Cristina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil
Lizzy Hale of Halestorm
Lacey Mosley of Flyleaf

I love that crazy bitch! She actually seems very intelligent and funny when she's coherent. Live Through This is one of my favorite albums.
