I can't stand when Sirius Hits 1 and FUSE bleep out the F word in Mumford & Sons' Little Lion Man. Like you can't figure out what that word is! My kids LOVE it when it comes on AltNation unbleeped, lol. Go ahead, call me a bad mom. Yes, I make them listen to Metallica too! I do draw the line at Metallica's So What. I think it's hysterical but just can't let the kids listen to that one.

The other song that cracks me up is I wanna be a Billionaire... so effin bad...

For the instances where curse words are using sparingly, I think bleeping out the word draws more attention to it than if it was left bleepless.

I think the censoring in The Offspring's Bad Habit is hilarious.

As to another song on the same album, I think the censoring in You're Gonna Go Far Kid results in a more interesting rhythm in the censored part than in the original

In Indiana where I grew up, radio stations would often censor of all things Don McLean's American Pie by cutting out the last verse which (gasp!) has the lines "The three men I admire most, the father, son, and holy coast, they caught the last train for coast."

We shoudl remember that the Police had censoship issues with the BBC on three of thier songs. Roxanne was in toruble because it promoted prostitution, Can't Stand Losing You had issues because it promoted sucide and it had the great cover photo of Stewart on a block of ice with a noose around his neck, and the video of Invisible Snn was banned from the BBC because of its portrait of the stuggles in Northern Ireland.

Yeah, the censorship of Roxanne was hilarious, because he was telling her he loved her and DID NOT want her to be a prostitute, so the song was not promoting prostitution; quite the opposite. Can't Stand Losing You, well, I think it's just from a naive kid's point of view after being dumped by his first girl, and he's hurt. Get over it people! And people SHOULD have been disturbed by the struggles in Northern Ireland.

the local station here plays a "messed up" version of Little Lion Man and I didn't even know it was supposed to be "fucked up" until recently. I think the "fucked up" version is better. But either way i love Mumford and Sons.

The Beautiful South, a band that my like for has increased year on year, formed from the housemartins..

Their song "Don't Marry her, have Me" was a big hit a number of years ago... lots of ageing (40+ gasp) MOR lovers rushed out to buy the album.... only to be horrified when the album version went; "Don't marry her, Fuck me".

How I laughed as I was given the album by thengirlfriends parents', they said that it was too rude to listen to. honestly. some people.

I remember being told off for singing along with " like a virgin" as a clueless 10 year old.

I also delighted in Copeland's "the other one is complete bullshit" on Reggatta, and the use of the C-word in Rehumanise yourself........ "Billy's joined the National Front, he always was a little runt, got his hands in the air with the other c*nts".

I love the C-word followed by "tambourine" in Dead End Job.

I've always found it really strange that songs had/have to be censored. I don't think it happens in my country, and I'm glad for that. Freedom of speech, and of what you do and don't let your children hear.

The edited version cracks me up. It's known as "The song otherwise known as Forget You" and every time I see it (on Glee or the Grammys) I seriously expect someone to slip up and drop the F bomb by accident, lol.

Having downloaded the original back when I first posted that, the edited version on the radio now just sounds wrong. They even censor the part where he says "I really hate your ass right now".
