The day after Tromp in Eindhoven

The day after Tromp in Eindhoven

Postby frans on 14 Nov 2010 10:38

Last night I visited the performance of Stewart, together with other percussion artists, in Eindhoven.
In one word it was great, seeing Stewart live is amazing, he turns into an animal once he is seated behind the drum gear.
The premiere of Microcosmos, unfortunately only 4 numbers where played, was awesome, The Copeland sound was so clear and present, I do hope one day a cd wil be released. I am also looking forward to the upcoming cd of Elbtonal Percussion group, as they mentioned they will release a cd with Stewarts music covers. It was amazing hearing this group play the music from Stewart and have that typical sound, so recognizable and wonderful.

It was great to meet Stewart after the concert and talk to him a little, get photos and an siognature on my first cd cover of the Equalizer and besides these great moment to meet Giovanni and Derek Power and have a short conversation with them as well.
Keep up the good work Giovanni and I do hope you will be allowed to upload some footage of the concert as you taped it all, I noticed.

Lets stay in touch.

I didn't check every single thread to see if someone already summed up yesterday's performance, so here's what happened (Stewart involvments only):

soundcheck from about 4:45 to 6:45pm
during a few breaks Stewart came down to the nutters for a few quick handshakes

concert started around 8:30pm

ElbtonalPercussion - Slither (SC composition) & Mikrokosmos (SC composition) in 4 parts
ElbtonalPercussion with SC - Gene Pool

SC with Daniel Hope and Sebastian Knauer - Celest
SC, ElbtonalPercussion, ETHEL and BEAM - "Orchestralli" (Prey "Birds", Stalin's Sultry Serenade, Our Mother Is Alive)

SC, ETHEL and Forro In The Dark - Darkness, Does Everyone Stare, Miss Gradenko and On Any Other Day

after a quick shower Stewart appeared in the foyer for photos and autographs, before disappearing to the after show party

the whole event could have used some more people in the audience and some kind of presenter / announcer to fill in the breaks (as there were so many different musicians lots of different setups were needed)

the music itself was not always to my taste, but the musical talent definitely was !
and it was very nice to hear THAT hi-hat again
and those Police songs that they never performend live
(those were not necessarily the best performances imaginable, but it was GREAT to see SC play those breaks live !!)

I know that various people recorded the concert and took a lot of photos (I did neither...).

Ciao Frans, and everyone else...it was a pleasure meeting you yesterday; as soon as you told me your name I immediately remembered you; it's cool when you see people waving at yourself asking 'are you Giovanni'?
Eheheh, I don't know if I should immediately say YES, but I guess it's always for a good reason, and it was!
I'm glad you talked to Derek and of course to Stewart.

Hey Dietmar, everything was fine at the airport, a pub was open and I could also spent some time on internet, as you could see from the other thread.
I didn't come home until now, as I was working toady, and went to the office straight away from the airport.

I'm a bit tired, but I still have some work to do now on my office e-mail account...I guess I'm a work-aholic, but after a day (well, a night) like that, it's plain to see that I've done the right thing to come even for a few hours, and I thank you especially for driving me to the airport in time to get the early flight!

In addition to Dietmar's report:
I've had worse Saturdays...no, just kidding, this definitely was the best Saturday I had in ages.

Lots of friendly, funny Nutters (from the Netherlands, England, Spain, Germay and Italy - it's a pity I didn't meet you Frans), and the opportunity to attend the soundcheck. We were told we could stay at the soundcheck til a quarter past five, but they conveniently "forgot" about us, so we saw Stewart and all the other musicians rehearse for about 2 hours.

Stewart was in a very good mood, and it was fun to watch him interact with the other performers, and bang his drums in between. And he was aware of our Nutter-troup the minute we came in. "Are you Italian?" he asked Maud from the stage. Later on he came down from the stagel to talk and shake hands (and sneak up on Dietmar). While testing the mikes someone gave us a few cha's.

I liked the show. Though I'm not very fond of violins, I liked the combination of Ethel and Forro in the Dark. I'm not quite sure what to make of the Police songs. In Darkness the lack of vocals worked very well, but in the other songs it would have been nice to hear Stewart sing (along to his drums, but if Taylor Hawkins can, so can you, Stewart!).

Meeting Stewart was a bonus - and he isn't THAT tall.

Thanks Maud for the good care you took of all the nutters, and it was nice meeting you (again) Kate, Miguel, Javier, Tonio, Gio, Eugenio, Dietmar, Christina, Rudiger and that other Spanish guy whose name I forgot. I hope the Dutch didn't frighten you too much with the arrival of Sinterklaas and his Zwarte Pieten (the Dutch Santa) on this already special day.

I'll upload my (amateur) soundcheck video's as soon as I'm able to remember my Flickr / Youtube password again.
I only stare this way at you
