The Police should definitely replace Radiohead.

Oh. come on! Was this a vote, or what? Radiohead, Oasis, The Smiths? I've heard of Radiohead, but really? I think we should do our own list and send it to Rolling Stone. Whatcha think?

subjective... the top 10 are no surprise.

i'd definately replace 'the doors' with 'the clash'.

and what does ""La guerra por su cuenta"" mean?

The Police, The Kinks, and Cream are all way too low.

And maybe a bit soon to put Franz Ferdinand on there, as much as I do love them.

I like "The Doors" more than "The Clash"... By the way, I speak spanish and don't understand what the hell "RS" says "La Guerra por su cuenta" (something like... "The war by their own") perhaps their intention was to say THE POLICE made a place into the rock scene by their own with a unique style nobody have in that era 8)

Where is the Jimi Hendrix Experience?

They seem to be listing bands rather than performers but the Experience was a band. Dominated by one member greater than the rest but so are lots of bands.

Rolling Stone's "biggest", "best" and "greatest" lists are worthless these days.

They're written in order to sell copy, and are often formed with the opinions of highfalutin snobs.

Where are the Grateful Dead? As far as "big" bands go, they had an enormous following and were one of the highest-grossing bands of the 1990s. And Wilco were/are bigger than Cream? Really? Really?

This is why I don't read Rolling Stone.

^ +1

I stopped reading Rolling Stone years ago. They clearly just have always had their critical favorite pets (including U2, Radiohead, and others who can never do anything wrong in their eyes). I'm only amazed they put The Floyd so high as they usually seem to love slamming them (except for the earliest Syd Barrett stuff, of course, because that's always ok for music snobs to praise.)

It would be hard even for them to ignore Pink Floyd as one of the biggest bands. Didn't Dark Side Of The Moon stay on the charts for years?

I do think the Grateful Dead (as much as I dislike them) belong on there somewhere, and Nirvana (as much as I love them) don't belong in the top ten.

And while we're at it, let's drop Arcade Fire and Franz Ferdinand and move AC/DC and the Ramones closer to the top.

No. No. We don't need to drop Arcade Fire. They are just fine where they are. They do play some interesting instruments.
