Stewart's new short opera of Poe's Tell Tale Hart

I added this to the knowing upcoming projects after DM noted it but thought it should get its own thread.

Accroding the Stewart's music publisher, G. Sshirmer, Stewart's short opera of Poe's Tell Tale Heart will be premeired on April 8, 2011 at the Royal Opera House in London as part of the opera houses "operashots" program.

The Royal Opera House's website describes its "Operashort" program as
What is opera? What might it become in the 21st century? To find out, ROH2 invites composers and writers from other fields to break the mould and take a brand new shot at opera. Lasting about half an hour each, OperaShots is short, sharp and experimental, and offers a new angle on opera, for both experienced opera lovers and opera virgins. This is the second year of OperaShots, with composers to be announced shortly.

Another of the composers doing a short opera for the Royal Opera House is Terry Jones of Monty Python, according to:

The info is in bottom of the article, where it references "Stuart Copeland of The Police."

Agreed!

And Poe moved around ALOT in his short life so the opera needs to come to his other homes also, such as the Poe Museum in Richmond, Virginia (where he grew up), the Poe National Historic Site in Philly (where he lived for a bit), and the Poe Cottage in Bronx, New York (where he lived at the end before his death in Baltimore).

Got some more info on this.

While the opera is premiering on April 8, it is also being performed several other days, the 8th, 9th, 12th, 13th, 15th, and 16th.

That is from the ROH website which also has a picture of Stewart at:
http://www.roh.org.uk/whatson/production.aspx?pid=15108

Here is the info about Stewrat's piece and the other operashot being performed:
Following on from last Season’s success, ROH2 has commissioned a further exciting array of composers and writers to tackle head on what opera is and what it might become in the 21st century. These new OperaShots come from names famous outside the world of opera, with unexpected subjects and novel approaches. The Tell-Tale Heart brings together Edgar Allen Poe’s gothic horror and ex-Police drummer Stewart Copeland, while The Doctor's Tale, from composer Anne Dudley (The Full Monty, The Art of Noise) and librettist Terry Jones (Monty Python), unveils a Python-esque story of a doctor whose devoted patients rush to the rescue after he is forced to stop practicing. Breaking the mold is what these brand new shots at opera are all about: come and find out how they hit their targets.
From another site, we learn that the performance has 5 singers annd 6 musicians. Stewart, unlike Holy Blood and Cresent Moon, did the libretto (lyrics) for this opera.

No way I will be able to attend but would love to.

Thanks for the update, Nick. I didn't even know Anne Dudley was working on a piece for this and I love her work so that will be the icing on the cake for me.

I'm 99.9 percent sure. I'm expecting a decent tax refund next year since I'm getting a clean fuel credit for the diesel I bought earlier this year. And I'm waiting for confirmation on the dates and being able to purchase tickets to the shows before booking my flights and hotels.
