Snare Drum Question

I was bidding on a 8x10 Superstar a month ago, but lost it; I'll bid more aggressively next time. I missed out on a Rude crash yesterday since I was out of town. I've got enough pieces to work with at the moment, but I'm keeping my eyes out for the last few bits. It's a fun kit to play. Nine months ago I was thinking of putting together a classic Pearl set, sort of in the Chester Thompson style, but once I got my first few Superstar pieces, the Pearl idea was over. It's all vintage Tama right now.

Very Copelandesque setup, low tilt angles and all! You play trad grip, right? Looks like you and the Skaman have the same octos. You should start your own thread....

Thanks, man. I play matched grip most of the time, but I try to make my left hand stroke swing like trad grip. I've always kept my tom angles pretty flat, but not quite as flat as SC, who is probably about 4" taller than me. While I liked drummers like Peart, Collins, Bruford, etc, Copeland was my first drum hero and his setup and sound are the most exciting. To me, the flat tom angles sort of equate visually to SC's tuning approach: slack tensioning and drooping toms are sort of flaccid and just don't cut it. The snare and toms need to sit upright and speak sharply when struck, like they're alive, not dead.

Thanks again. BTW, on my original question regarding the towel on the snare drum, I noticed while watching Outlandos to Synchronicities yesterday that there was some black padding (pipe lagging) on the drum during the footage of Roxanne from 1979.
