Today BLOOD SUGAR SEX MAGIC by Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Cincinnati's very own Blue Wisp Big Band, 20th Anniversary cd. I admit this is pretty far from Police/Stewart Copeland, but I saw these guys in concert the other night and they are just fantastic. They are the best players in town, they've been together for 20 years with very little turnover in personnel, and they just hit it out of the park every time. The leader of the band is drummer John Von Ohlen, one of the best big band drummers in the world who's played with everyone (Stan Kenton band in the 60s/70s, Rosemary Clooney, etc.) He tunes his drums low, but he hits them hard and gets a big sound out of a small kit. His main ride cymbal has a few big chunks missing and looks likes it been through a war, but it still sounds sweet. Every guy in the band can solo, and every section has chemistry. If you are in Cincy on a Wednesday night, make your way down to the Blue Wisp Jazz Club on E. 8th Street, and take in the power and style of the Blue Wisp Big Band.
