i dont know about you guys but i watched a couple of there videos on youtube...and i was not at all impressed the slightest bit... i cant believe they are opening for police.

The videos don't do them justice. I've seen them several times and I'm more than thrilled that they'll be opening! It's been a bumpy road for them w/all the label issues, but now it's finally their turn to be noticed.

Yes, Divemistress, Coco has a very unique voice and writing style. Eagerly awaiting more from her.

I saw them opening for Sting in Luxembourg last year, for his "Brocken Music" tour !
It's a quite good pop rock band, nothing extraordinary...
Joe reminds me of Sting in his early days with The Police, he moves the same way as his father on stage. And he plays bass and sings with a high-pitched voice too !
And he's a nice guy: he was in the middle of the crowd, selling CDs of Fiction Plane after Sting's show, outside the stadium. We had a little chat and I asked him if he remembered the days when he was touring with The Police all around the world. But he was just too young !!!

I am just glad that the Police found the best band available to open for them, after exhaustive searches and auditions, without a hint of nepotism, to fill the slot that no other band could play.

By the way, I was watching Everyone Stares. Does anyone know which video the Police were filming when they surrounded themselves with sheep?

When Sting met with Stewart and Andy he probably had a list of demands:

Fiction Plane was one of them. Go figure.

Another was no backing vocalists, horns or keyboardists.

Another was Andy playing "Message" like dominic miller (anyone know what I'm talking about?)

Another was "Walking on the Moon" in Bb instead of C.

hahaha, brilliant! Actually I was thinking...I just have the idea that Sting wouldn't let even his son open for them if they were not up to the task...maybe I just remember him as Ed's dad in Lock Stock and that impression carries over...seriously, I think integrity is on the line when your son's band opens (especially when it's your son's band) and the performance better be, without doubt, worthy of the billing...and I think it will...just a feeling

Whatever the reason, or rationalisation, I would much more prefer to pay for THE POLICE... Three plus hours of THE POLICE. I don't want an opening band, good, great, or "sucks". Don't waste my time. Get to the point.

You know what? Regardless of my opinions of Fiction Plane, if I was a famous rock star and my kid was in a band I'd totally do the same as Stingo has done. Think of Stingo as a dad for a second and you'll know what I mean. He just wants to give his son an awesome opportunity and I don't begrudge him that.

I don't know if it was Fiction Plane but a band that Joe Sumner was in played at my local punk venue about 10 years ago and they were practically heckled and booed off stage just because Sting was his dad. My guess is that Joe Sumner has had to work f*cking hard to get people to take him seriously as a musician and judge him on his own merits.

But I'd really have liked to have seen Coco too. She's the new Nico, I'm telling you!

I agree with having just an evening of the Police. I would rather have the Police play just an extra four songs rather than having to sit through a mediocre opening act. I am afraid there is a real reason why few of us have actually heard Fiction Plane and it's not because they're England's best kept secret.

I look forward to the set list. The Police is not performing a new album, so there will hopefully not many filler songs. The Synchronicity concert sure came to a crawl when the quieter Synchronicity songs were played.

And thank heavens there will be no horn section. I've watched clips from the Gateshead show on Youtube and, boy, does a horn section not suit the Police sound.
