haha... i sort of lost it when reading that article this morning. i'd sort of reverted back to lurker status on the boards after the police thing wound down... i was worn down after battling sting people on the police boards, dealing with the unreasonable types who won't abide criticism of him no matter how much of a wank he is.
i just don't understand why he feels the need to trash the tour/the band/whatever. he was all to happy to walk away from it, so do it and shut up. better yet, create something NEW of WORTH... but we all know that isn't happening. i was a big fan of sting's after the police, but i think anyone with critical faculities and a functioning brain realizes that his last complete creative statement was the soul cages way back in '91. ever since then, he's been riding the gravy train, writing from his pocketbook rather than his heart or brain. his creative choices have been pretty "inspiring": victoria's secret exclusive CD, appearing onstage with the backstreet boys, cameo on ally mcbeal... i could go on and on. his solo career has declined... his last true solo record (sacred love) wasn't good, and touring it relegated him to the smaller hall circuit.
referring to the police as an "asset" makes me sick... makes me wish i could withdraw the thousands i spent to to thicken his wallet. he used the band to re-establish his place in the market, and now is touring again on the back of his past glories. still no new music, nothing left to say. pathetic.
as much as i had grown to dislike sting over the years, i felt like we were even-steven after tourzilla... he did me a solid by letting me see my favorite band again, allowing andy and stewart the opportunity to do what they do best again, but he's right back to scumbag status with me. what a cynical exercise... he had no intention of creating anything new with the band, and then to slam the reunion for that very reason is lower than low. he strung fans and band members along, never totally ruling out doing something new, knowing full well that fans and the band wanted it. he's a cold, calculating businessman with no soul and no barrel left to scrape. and he can fuck right off.
"i have to fake it when i deal with the system..."
