Dead Like Me - Autographed CDs (limited quantities)

I'm not sure if it is everyone's cup of tea, but I personally love it. I really like having the liner notes to go along with listening to the music. Several of the tracks have what sounds to me like a heavy William Orbit influence which is great since I am also a fan of Orbit's work. I'd love to see William and Stewart collaborate on a project someday. I also really love the use of violins in the Dead Like Me selections. Hopefully there will be a volume 2 of the Dead LIke Me scores since there's stuff missing from here that I remember really liking from the series, like the train wreck sequence in the pilot. There was so much noise from that sequence that drowned out a lot of the score.

I would say definitely YES! This is some of my favorite soundtrack work by Stewart, like, ever (ok, at least going back to the 80s and a couple releases from the 90s.) It's very playful and fun, but with some darker/more somber sections as well.

Of course, I might be biased because I adored DLM as a series; in fact, it was the last scripted TV series I regularly followed and eagerly looked forward to. I'm thrilled to finally have a soundtrack cd, even if it only scratches the surface of some of the great music from the show.

Well I think that's the feedback I've been looking for! Thanks sockii and conroyl! On my way to the website when I get off here.

DLM is being rerun on Saturday afternoon at 5 PM here so I've been able to catch a few random episodes. Wonder if it's available on Netflix?

Lilting is the best word that would describe Stewart's score for DLM.

One of the things I really love about this soundtrack after repeated listens is that Stewart does a fantastic job of not making the themes boringly repetitious when they are used multiple times throughout the episodes. In fact, they seem so refreshing that it took me a couple of listens before I realized that some of the later selections were repeating themes in the earlier selections.

Got this on Saturday. Who'da thunk it--- a brand new Stewart Copeland album, celebrating his score for a series that's been off the air for several years! I'm also holding out hope more stuff gets issued this way. This was a godsend, really appreciate the heads up on FB Conroy! (Despite my initial confusion that it would only be $1.98  )

As to the liner notes... this is the way to do 'em! It provides both a great summation of and introduction to the series. The author delves extensively into the structure of each track and breaks down the instruments used. The only thing that could have been better would be direct input from the Maestro himself!

I've been on the fence about this show for years, but the summary of the final episode had me squeeing a little. It appears to be some sort of nod to/parody of the Halloween movies. Not only am I an H-fan, but around the time this show was in production I was working on my own cheesy parody version: http://www.youtube.com/user/vfwing#p/c/ ... lXgria8NXg

This was encouraging to discover and has me now eagerly anticipating diving in to the series all the way!

I also love the allusion in the Halloween episode of DLM to Fritz Lang's brilliant movie "M" that starred Peter Lorre as another whistling serial killer. The whistling in M was done by Lang himself since Lorre couldn't whistle. Was that the Maestro whistling in the DLM episode?

Another thing I love about the second half of the DLM soundtrack in particular is the heavy use of gamelans. Listening to it gets me psyched about the new piece premiering in Dallas in Feb.

I missed the gamelans. WHich tracks are they on?

I have enjoyed the first half of the CD more generally.

WHile I enjoy it, Conroy's correct that isn't for everyone. Listen to the 2 Deal Like Me tracks on the Stewart COpeland Anthology and the 3 or so tracks available on the LaLa Records website. If you don't like those, you're not likely to enjoy the CD.

.

I noticed them around track 14 which is entitled Suite from the Ledger Part II (also the same as track 18 on the Stewart Copeland anthology entitled Chrystal/Drive Daisy/End Title) and I think on almost every track after that. Track 15 entitled Suite from the Ghost Story Part 1 also has them starting around 1:10. It's also my favorite track on the CD so far.

After listening to the second half of the CD more carefully, I still am most fond of the stuff from season one, although track 17, Suite from the Ghost Artist, Part I, is a favorite.

I really enjoy this CD.

The music is very interesting. It has an unusal and faily minimal use of different instruments (all of which are played by Stewrat other than the violins, horns, and woodwinds). It also has a greater use of percussion than most of Stewart's soundtracks.

I hope that LaLa Land Records puts out more Stewart soundtracks.
