Very interesting.

I'm suprised that this is our first thread about THE disaster. And it's way down on the list. Maybe we don't have an Nutters in that area or perhaps they are a little busy right now. As for the rest of us, we are still saying WTF? I am having a hard time accepting that this is REAL and not going to leave the headlines anytime soon.

sheeeet, when you put in london it covers the whole south east of the country.....

i cant believe that BP put that crap (pipes et al) on the seabed without any thought of what they might do if it goes wrong... "right, we're pissing oil into the sea; now what can we do to fix it?".. shouldn't they have tried their hair blankets and boxes and covers before burying pipes? just a thought....

and then there's that clip of the BP CEO saying that he "wants his life back" 'cos he's getting bored of all the criticism and pressure. ahhh, diddums.

terrible.

I work for a Medical Consulting company that provides services to alot of Oil and Gas companies, doing primarily case management when their workers get injured. BP is one of our clients and by far one of the least safe of the big ones. The biggest problem with this whole thing is that BP just plain doesn't care- the money is more important than safety or solutions. What will be the cheapest way to do xyz? It's how alot of businesses operate, but not alot of businesses have that massive and long reaching ecological/environmental responsibility resting on how they choose to operate. Wow that's fantastic that you're going to be fully responsible for cleaning this up, how big of you! Thanks for doing so much reactively, here's a pat on the back!- now how about being a little proactive and not effing up other parts of the world and more people's lives?

This is going to change the world in many ways. So sad.

I'm not sure about the accuracy of this claim, but I heard that every 96 hours this thing is gushing an "Exxon Valdez" worth of oil.

I think it's just so horrifying it's difficult to even comprehend fully, let alone know how to deal with it beyond rage and anger.

I just put in the Isle of Wight which is about 12x26 miles and it's covered in oil, It spreads, as Smax says over the whole south east of the country, west as far as Cornwall where my sister lives and almost all the way to France. Damn scary. Looking at a site like this shows you how damn big and devastating this is. The pictures in the papers of wildlife effected are heartbreaking.

I can't really watch either. I'm beyond livid over this and there's nothing I can do about it that won't land me in the slammer. This needs to be the hugest lawsuit in the history of lawsuits, heads need to roll, people need to go to jail. Of course, it won't happen, since big business owns our government. It's just another thing where I keep wondering, Where's the revolution...(and I don't mean those tea party cretins)

For my part, no BP gas goes in the hybrid. Ever again.

I live very close to the Gulf; on the bay side of St. Pete, FL. While the actual spill ruin hasn't reached us yet, its threat is definitely affecting small business people here, particularly the ones whose businesses center around tourism. Both musicians and charter captain friends are suffering big impacts as a result of this mess, and in some cases having to rethink their longterm career plans. It is very sad. A couple of the officially recognized most beautiful beaches in America are in this area (Clearwater and Ft. De Soto park) and people are really mourning their potential destruction. Here are photos from a local photoblogger...

What's Obama doing about it? Nobody seems to be talikng about that. Wasn't bp an enormous contributor to the Obama campaign? Things that make you go hmmmm.

Good luck trying to boycott bp products. We don't know everyone they sell to, let alone how many other products besides gas have thier petroleum in it.

WTF is Obama waiting for? Time to earn that Nobel prize NOW!

Thanks, Chatch. Nothing like hearing from the locals on these issues.

I think Obama should put BP into receivership, as was recommended by Sec. Reich....http://www.huffingtonpost.com/robert-re ... 95346.html

but I'm sure the tea-party types will fight that with everything in their arsenal, since such a move would be "socialist" (which is just about the only word in their vocabulary these days.)
