Really GREAT to hear Stewart so complimentary about Sting on the show - loved it.

Nice one.

'Sting is the greatest bass player alive today ...along with Paul Mc Cartney'

Asked if The Police were gigging again he replied.....

'We're done we're done I hurt him too much!'

he did...

I just searched "stewart copeland" on twitter and have read through peoples comments who watched the show, people either loved or hated Stewart, some of the comments made me lol

I loved how passionately Stewart tried to push Stings case as the greatest bass player - he is such a loyal dude

for those who have asked for copies, I am slowly playing them back and copying them manually - I'll get them out as soon as I can guys xx

Sorry but Stewart shiould have been the number one drummer.

Ok. John Bonham, Keirh Moon and Dave Grohl are ghreat drummers but they are all power players.

None of them do the tricky trippy hi-hat stuff that Stewart does.

I think Sterwarts playing is unique. You can always tell it is Stewart playing.

That can't be said of the 3 mentioned above who have many immitaters
that sound like them.

Well done, STEWART and STING, for saying nice things about each other.
Always like to give credit where it is due.

I think if the list were limited to greatest LIVING drummers, Stewart would be top of list. He should be top of ANY list of greatest drummers but there are too many dead guys crowding him out.

Sorry that's not worded in such a PC way, I don't feel like editing. NO disrespect intended toward Bonham & Moon.

If I were to choose a band, I prefer The Who over Led Zeppelin (perhaps because enough of The Who lived long enough for me to see them in concert). Though I would say the drumming in Zepplin's music stands out more for me than it did for the Who which is more about Roger and Pete. Again, perhaps because of what I've been able to see live.

Smudge and I went to BBC TV Centre to see this being recorded. Well, I say recorded, it was actually transmitted live. A brave move when you put Stewart Copeland and Jonathan Ross in the same studio!

Much more fun to be in the studio than watch it on the box methinks! Mr C was himself - say no more!! Always no less than entertaining

Enormously funny to hear him going on and on and on about how Sting should've won Best Bassist. Even prompting Jonathan Ross to say, "Are you STILL banging on about Sting?"! Seemed to be a bit of a Stew/Sting love-in when one of the clips showed Sting saying, "Any band is only as good as its drummer".

Have to say that the highlight for me was seeing 'Whispering' Bob Harris in the flesh. That man is sooooo cool. Also pleasantly surprised to find that for the first time ever, I didn't want to slap Al Murray. And of course, it was just lovely to gaze at Mr Ross! All in all a fun, if slightly mad night :P
Cheese comes as standard. From Ben Hur to Borough Market, we've got it covered.

^ jealous.....

there were a few funny moments: Ross telling stewart to shut up about Sting was funny, stewart saying hendrix was "outta toon" and that Moony couldn't hold his sticks properly... because this was essentially just people talkoing about bands / musicians that they like; it became a bit heated at points which saved it from being a glossy run-down of BS, but it was also the factor that meant it all felt like they didn't know what they were doing..........

a bit odd how they had three tribute acts (for each of the prospective Best Band: Zep, Beatles and Queen) who we heard more from than the bands they were talking about: now, if i'm not wrong, i think there is footage of each of those bands playing live which for the viewer at home would've been pretty much the same experience.

mmmmmm lauren laverne.

Dafttart is a broadcast techie person by profession, but it was my first time in a 'live' studio. Fascinating, and incredibly slick. The cameras are huge and frighteningly mobile, trailing heavy cables which force the audience into a sort of slo-mo double-dutch skipping to avoid them.

My personal favourite moment was Mr Copeland and Loyd Grossman (a UK-based Bostonian, TV-gormand, and purveyor of overpriced pasta sauces) going head to head over Keith Moon. It was somewhat surreal. Mr Grossman took Mr Copeland to task for commenting on Keith Moon's parlous stick-grip, snapping "You think Hendrix was out of tune, Moony didn't hold his sticks right - next you'll be complaining about the way Rembrandt held his brush." He'd rather missed the point of Mr Copeland's comments (i.e. these things don't matter), but it was a nice pay back - or pay forward, can't remember the order - for Mr Copeland's "What IS that accent??!"

(A sample of the most unique vowel sounds in UK broadcasting is available here for overseas chums who haven't experienced Mr Grossman: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dZ7UVaL6F4)

The whole thing would have been fun-free without dafttart and I was very glad to be there with a pro who could advise on how not to get in shot :-)

PS Smax - Ms Laverne looked far more gorgeous in person than on the telly.

Sorry. This is a little bit off topic but I noticed
that Stewart is wearing his grey striped shirt.

Stewart really seems to like this shirt.

It is a 8) shirt.
