Thanks for asking. I'm starting to get around a little bit and doing my physio exercises religiously. I've regained a lot of range of motion in my knee, maybe even more than I had before the surgery. And the pain is greatly reduced. But my leg bones seem to be getting back a bit of their wanderlust. So, I'm taking it slow and easy with the aid of my cane. On Wednesday, I'll see the doctor to find out what, if anything, he's going to do next.

Regardless of my knee,I intend to fully enjoy this weekend. It's a long weekend thanks to our old Queen Victoria having a birthday in May. There'll be fireworks and everything. The weather is going to be great, too! I may be able to talk my kids into planting the vegetable garden for me while I sit watching in a deck chair sipping iced ginger tea.

You could always take up knitting...

;) Actually, I did when having to spend long stretches sitting around in the hospital taking care of my dad. Hell, you'd have time to gin up a pretty nice lace scarf in a week or two.

Glad to hear things are going better than expected! do we get a photo of your fat cast? ;)

Alas, Dive, I've got no cast for all the cool kids to sign. Today's knee surgery is done with scopes and whatnot, and I'm left with only three small incisions covered in gauze and wrapped in a tensor bandage. I look like I'm faking, especially when I compare it to the epic hip to toe cast I wore for 6 weeks after my knee surgery in the 80's.

Thanks for the suggestion about knitting, but I have scads of things to keep me busy. I'm catching up on reading, watching videos, enjoying good music and making lesson plans for my substitute teacher. My students have been sailing through their work way faster than they normally do with me.
I guess I was a little misleading when I mentioned my leg bones' wanderlust. I meant that the bones are resuming their habit of wandering off in directions they aren't supposed to go. That's what happens when you screw up all the things that are meant to hold the bones in place. But my muscles are getting stronger quite quickly, which is greatly aiding the knee's stability. And all the continued good vibes are also a huge help. Thanks all.

Arthritis!?!!! What the hell? Arthritis?
I just got back from my post-op appointment where my doctor told me what he found when he looked inside my knee last week. It turns out that I damaged absolutely nothing new in my knee. Aside from the original ACL tear I suffered years ago, all those things that were showing up on the ultrasounds and MRI as meniscus and ligament tears were osteoarthritis, wear and tear of the bones. All along the doctor said I had some arthritis, but he didn't think it was this much.
The good news: no new surgery any time soon and, unlike previous diagnosis, my leg is actually being held together by a whole lot more than just a string.
The bad news: I got a shit load of arthritis in that knee for a person my age. Everytime my bones slide out of place (which they've been doing for years thanks to my chronic ACL problem), the arthritis worsens. When I severely twisted my knee back in December, I guess that was the tipping point. Anytime the knee slips out a bit now, it triggers arthritis pain and swelling, pain and swelling that we were wrongly associating with meniscus and ligament damage.
Anyhow, it is manageable, and my fancy-dancy knee brace will still help alleviate the problem. (At the very least, it'll keep my freakin' bones in place.)
Thanks again for your good thoughts and all. Perhaps your vibes morphed all the damage (which would have been the worse of the two scenarios) into plain ol' arthritis.

Oh, LL, thanks for the update and I'm sorry to hear your news wasn't happier. Sometimes it's two steps forward, one step back, or v.v. As for the arthritis, it will happen to us all (I have it in my thumbs) if we live long enough. Better than the alternatives! Do you have a family history of osteoporosis?
