Josh Freese fears the MAESTRO!

Josh Freese fears the MAESTRO!

Postby empty on 22 May 2010 17:23

Josh Freese, rock's uber drummer, Vandals, NIN, DEVO, sometimes Sting, and more records in the last 12 years than you (or I) could likely count. sometimes lucky enough to have Mr. Seitz tech for him.

Well, on FB, he mentioned yesterday that he has a Sting gig tonight which he hadn't had time to rehearse for- so he was "cramming" listening to tons of Police.
Anyway, this is what he said:
" Brushing up on Sting/Police. Playing w/him Sat night in TX (no rehearsal) I forget sumetimes HOW MANY good fucking songs he's written! 2 things R certain-my boy can write n' Stewart Copeland might b the greatest drummer ever. I mean...C'MON! Listening 2 "Ghost In The Machine" right now...WTF?? Who SOUNDS like that? I'v...e heard a lot of folks try...I'VE TRIED....no 1 else can play like that! SO good! Case closed."

I smile knowingly. YeAH! of course! He's our Maestro. And nice that another drummer gives him his props.

TODAY, however, HILARIOUS!!!!

"Good AND bad news...Stewart Copeland will be at my gig w/Sting tonight. Ha! No rehearsal and we haven't played since Oct. No pressure, right?"

SO, STEWART, if you get a chance, be nice to Josh. He is also amazing, tall, lanky, geeky, hilarious (ever seen his You tube videos???) and grew up being inspired by you. throw the guy a bone, k?

And I gotta say, while it's cool YOU are going, I don't even think your presence could get me to a Symphonicity gig.
*saving for Dallas*
Playing drums is Hard Fucking Work

UH UH...interesting...
I'm sure the MAESTRO will go and see a Symphonicity show, that's for sure...and you know that he's now used to orchestras...Sting could have Stewart playing a song, why not, seen how the MAESTRO was able to mix his drumming with the work of the Orchestralli.

That's amazing !

No matter how much success you get, heroes are heroes.

Makes me feel better as I never know why I want him to listen to my tunes. I guess it makes you feel like your in the game.

Great to hear that Stewart would go.

Cheers.

Who's celebrating Jeff's birthday with Jeff? The Maestro should be throwing St. Jeff a Big f---ing party! Maybe he's doing a twosome: concert and then parteh!

And dam well should...how he ever got the gig with Sting I'll never know...That Broken Music Tour was Laughable. I mean the drums were just plain wrong...Abe Jr. was a better choice for that...dam Sting hire Chad Wackerman...Josh Freeze common really?????

Based on a story on Stingus.net, this was not a Symphonicity show. I knew this was a kick-off (no pun intended) for the Super Bowl here in Big D next year (culminating with, of course, the DSO/D'Drum show) but it looks as if the lineup was a quartet with Dominic, David Sancious and Josh Freese. That would explain why Freese was cramming for the gig on Police/Sting tunes. On the Symphonicity shows, they use more of a percussionist.

From what Stingus says, a recording of this show is already floating 'round the internet.

Great show for a semi-corporate gig in support of the Super Bowl. Could have been very safe, but Sting changed up the arrangements on many “hits” and seemed to be really into the performance. Nice four piece band of bass/guitar/piano/drums. Might be the last time Sting performs with such a stripped down line up for awhile. Sound in this venue is amazing. Recorded with automatic level control with mics hidden under my collar. Didn’t want to be called out at this event. Still came out nice, but tweaked by me for cd. A bit of clapping and singing, but none from the taper. Tracks done on the fly, so they may not be perfect. Enjoy

I have not listened to this yet (not sure if I will). The above comments are by the taper, not me.
