Whatcha readin'?

I haven't had a chance to start reading it yet, but I'm very anxious to dive into "Rock & Roll Jihad", a kind of memoir by Salman Ahmad. He and his band Junoon are hugely popular rockers in Pakistan who strive to fight extremism through their music which blends rock with sufism, a mystic branch of Islam. That hasn't always been easy for them. Aside from being a musician, he is a UN good will ambassador and a lecturer at Queen's College in New York. I've heard a couple of interviews with him, and he's fascinating and ridiculously articulate about all manner of things. Based on the little bits I've heard, his music is way cool, too, with rhythms that are sure to please us Copeland fans.
If the title scares you, just remember that for most Muslims, jihad means an internal spiritual struggle on an individual and personal level. They view the extremists' take on the word as a corruption even though it is the only understanding most Westerners have of it.

This is a thread that needs a bump.
I'm reading all the books from Anne McCaffrey about the dragons on Pern in chronological order.

I'm wishing I had more time to read. Recently, I have been on this kick of trying to dispel the notion that great literature (fiction) has mostly died in the last 25 years. I have been thinking of picking up White Noise or other books by Don Delulio. Any other suggestions to help dispel my notion? A short book would be help, as I have little spare time.

Wow! That sounds about as interesting as what I'm reading presently: "Assessment, Evaluation and Reporting in Ontario Schools 2010".

I agree with smax. I've read both your posts and thought "oh, no, no, no." Remember when you got out of school and thought (at least one of my first thoughts was) "now I can read anything I want whenever I want". They've decieved us once again (that's i before e except after c, right LL?)

I agree! If his name's Marc and he's only 21, he can format my bibliographic data any time.

I'm reading a book about Milano, based on what happened historically speaking from 1750 until today...I guess it's always good to know your roots and know the place where you live.
250 pages (that's too much for me...)

I also bought a book called TOUR:SMART written by Martin Atkins (drummer for PIL, Killing Joke and many others, beyond being a label owner, etc...); it's all about the music biz.
One day I may write something like that ...
