OT: If you know anyone stuck in the UK due to a volcano...

Hey all. Our news in the UK is full of tales of people who can't go on vacation due to the little local difficulty we have with a volcano. I know it's screwed up much needed travel for many folk, but getting stuck going away for a vacation is marginally less ghastly than being stuck trying to get home.

This is a long shot, but if you have friends/family stranded in the UK and in need of a free place to crash for a couple of days, let me know. I've got space for one or two. I'm just outside London within easy reach of Heathrow and Gatwick.

There are probably several hundred thousand people stuck in the UK right now. UK folks have been asking via news networks if they can help accommodate stranded travellers, and so far there doesn't seem to be any coordinated response. If the BBC lets you down, sc.net is the next option :-)

Nice one, Smudge :-)

Spare room in Kingston, which is about 12 miles SW of central London available for friends of Nutters too. But be warned, this room comes with small (loud) children in the rest of the house!

Would that we had made it even as far as the UK to ask for lodging help... :(

I don't know anyone stranded in the UK, but your thoughtfulness and generosity have definitely buoyed my spirits, smudge and dafttart. I kind of needed to regain some faith in humankind today. Thanks. You really can't beat the London Coven.

Nutter magic at work again. Thank you for being there! I was just thinking about this mess and am going to post on the weather thread. God bless all!

Just sucks that this would happen in April, when the weather's nice and a lot of people are in the mood to go on vacation.

That said, I can think of places I'd much rather not be than stranded in London. A tad bit jealous, I am.

Three cheers for Nutters volunteering bunks.

I'd be happy tp be stranded anywhere in Europe right now, instead of stranded at home not able to make anything of this vacation time and all the money potentially lost as a result.

The latest on the radio is that some airports may be operating again from 7am starting with those in Scotland. Im on the Isle of Wight so right at the other end of the UK but only a short boat ride from Southampton for any nutter/ friends/family travelling from that airport and stuck. Happy to share my very small and basic beach hut accomodation with anyone who needs help. Can't offer luxury but can offer a big welcome, plenty of sleeping bags and very very nice sunsets. :-)

Yeah to the London nutters!

My daughters first big trip over seas for 3 and half months doing Europe and UK and she is stuck here :x

now can not get away for another two weeks since she was supposed to leave today for Melbourne then Dubai then Switzerland.

just keeping fingers crossed the thing calms down and all those stranded travellers get home safely and she can leave in two weeks.

Our friends never fail us

Thanks guys for your generous hearts!!!

And moonstone! She's a little way from London, with much better views :-)

Visions - glad your daughter is stuck at home rather than here. Sorry her trip is delayed, but I do worry about younger travelers who are stuck and can't just wave a credit card and pay for somewhere to stay. Hotels are charging fortune.

Apologies for bumping this thread, but I know all us brit-folk would hate for anyone to be struggling over here right now when there's free accommodation if needed. Put the word out people. Thanks.

Heard Billy Bragg yesterday saying how he was in the BBC reception in west London when someone spotted a plane flying overhead at high altititude.

"Everyone rushed to the window and stared. It as if King Kong was out there throwing cars around the street!"

and they're off... noticed the sound of overheadplanesness earlier this evening and thought; "oh, yeah, planes. i haven't missed that sound".

hero badge to smudge for the offer of crash pad.... no such offer from the smax household; we've just had new carpet fitted in every room so no fucker's coming in our house unless they strip naked and pad around like a toddler... i nearly shit myself carrying chocolate cake and coffee through the lounge earlier.
