Please help me find "Sting's" Police Flightsuit!

Please help me find "Sting's" Police Flightsuit!

Postby New Zealand Promoter on 15 Apr 2010 23:38

i’ve been trying to find a flightsuit that is of the same kind worn by El Stingo circa 1979-80.
there are tonnes on ebay – but most of them have a rounded collar, not the ‘shirt’ style collar
that sting’s had. The talented young man from the Police Experience has one too.

Also, note that it appears to be a sage or light grey coloured flightsuit, not khaki, olive or desert.

I am presuming it’s a british RAF issue garment, unless Paul Mulligan (who gave it to sting in ’79)
bought it in the US (!).

Can anyone help me narrow down my search? ie any proper search terms I should be using
to find this kind of flightsuit? Any online stores I should try out?

Dietmar..?

Police Experience guys?

I heard that the one Sting actually used to wear walked off on its own one day. Maybe you can track down that one.

I wonder if Stewart's socks paired with his shirt from the MSG finale could work as a divining rod to track down the flightsuit? And if you pair a pair of something such as socks with another item, is it still considered a pair?

I wasn't very sure what a "flightsuit" was - so I googled it.

Is it that what you are looking for?

Oh no, those are what Danny Q dubbed the Flying Underpants, lol!

I'm guessing that Dietmar or Craig Betts has the original flightsuit ;-)

just to clarify, I'm after help finding the right search terms for the right type of suit, not the actual physical suit that sting wore. that would be silly. although if dietmar does have it, he could check the type of military issue it
is! :)

I don't have it :(

Sting used this grey flight suit for the first time on May 31, 1977. It was given to him by Stewart's and Henry's friend Paul Mulligan, who also watched that Railway Hotel gig. He had bought it at an Aviation surplus store at Biggin Hill Airport.

which doesn't really help you finding a similar item

thanks d, it does help because now i am certain that it's a british issue garment. that means i can limit my search to UK ebay postings :)

i should just look for a military gear forum. there will be one out there somewhere.

You know, at this point I'm starting to think Dietmar needs his *own* fan website.

Or is this it?? :D

(thinks Dietmar is the best)
On Google - site:stewartcopeland.net "your keyword here" - thanks DM!!

Our very own 'Sting-ish' in The Police Experience has the suit....

If I remember it's actually a French flight something or other.... I tuned out as soon as he said it was French

You can contact him thru our website- www.policeexperience.com

I know it took him a while to find it, but they're out there.
