OT: Level 42's first U.S. dates in 23 years

Postby Bob from NJ on 24 Mar 2010 22:23

Sorry about this message as I know many either don't care about or remember Level 42..

But I do know there have been some on here over the years I've corresponded with on these boards about the band (who used to open for The Police once upon a time).

Anyway, for the first time in 23 years, Mark King and co. are coming to the States for a few shows. They haven't been officially announced yet, but there are a couple of places selling tickets (Nokia Theatre in NYC on July 23rd, to be specific)..Figured I'd throw it out there on the off chance someone might want to see them.

We now return our regularly-scheduled Yo-ing.

This was nice to read Bob. Thanks for posting.

Mark King lives on the Island and in an interview with the local paper a few weeks ago he was saying how much the band loved playing in the states and really hoped they got the chance to do so again.

Are you going?

Wow, I remember seeing them here in LA at The Palace around 87 or 88. Fantastic live band! One of the tightest bands I've ever seen. I would love to see them again.

I am going!

And that story you're talking about from the IOW Press came from me ..in a very roundabout way :-)

More to come on that front...

Hi Bob

I'm intrigued and also wondering if I might have read a bit about this in the interviews.

Will see if I can get hold of some back issues of the C.P. if you would like them? You might have already read them though.

Hope you have a fantastic time.

Thanks so much for offering! I actually did get a copy sent to me after it ran.

The story that ran in the IOW paper was basically lifted from this one I freelanced here in the States. It's a very funny story...and maybe the subject's efforts helped the band think about coming here?

Thanks for the heads up Bob! I might be interested in checking them out, schedule permitting (especially if they hit the Philly area...)

Blimey it was lifted wasn't it!

Well I'm pleased that both the band and the fans appear to be getting their wish. Also the comments made me smile. Particularly the one where someone offers to send an Isle of Man flag. We're hundreds of miles apart but always the two get mixed up.

Cool job you've got Bob. I wish I had the talent to write professionally but suspect I'd have to learn to spell first

Do let us know what the show was like.

I wore out my copy of World Machine from playing it nearly 24/7. Neil Peart once said that you'd break your arm trying to play like Phil because he plays so perfectly behind the beat. It's funny, because you really have to listen hard, but he does! Just like a certain Rhythmatist we all know and love plays so perfectly on top of the beat :)

Frickin' amazing drummer.

Nice to see so many enthusiastic posts here... I thought I'd get laughed at posting it here!

Sockii, I have my doubts they're playing Philly as they have one Annapolis show, one D.C. show and one NYC show. But it's weird, they venues are just advertising certain shows - the band and the management have not officially announced anything yet.

I'll have another story on Mark King coming out for a bass publication soon. I'll post the link when it comes out.
