OK my fellow Taylor Hawkins fanatics...I know you're out there...let the squeeing commence (and plans for tourdate get togethers! Because I sure as fuck will be there!)

Second Album From Foo Fighters' Drummer and Friends
Out April 20 On Shanabelle/RCA

A year in the making, the second effort from Foo Fighters' Taylor Hawkins and his Coattail Riders, Red Light Fever, is now scheduled for an April 20 release on Shanabelle/RCA Records.

Hawkins began demoing tracks on his own when an early 2009 break from the Foo Fighters' grueling touring schedule finally freed up the time. According to Hawkins, who of course provides drums and vocals on all tracks among other additional instrumentation, "About halfway through, I just said f**k it, I don't care if the record ends up sounding like me having sex with my record collection. I'm just going to have fun with it."

The record soon went from a home recording project like the Coattail Riders' 2006 debut (which was recorded in Foo Fighters touring percussionist Drew Hester's living room) to full on sessions at the Foo Fighters' state of the art 606 studio complex. Hawkins was joined by returning Coattail Riders Chris Chaney (bass) and Gannin Arnold (guitar) and, for the first time in the studio, touring Coattails guitarist Nate Wood. As the record's dozen songs were fleshed out, so too was its stellar supporting cast, which would eventually come to include Elliot Easton of the Cars, Brian May and Roger Taylor of Queen, and last but by no means least, Hawkins' bandmate Dave Grohl.

Red Light Fever could be considered a labor of love - if the sheer joy exuded in every note, influence and nuance of every song didn't make the entire affair seem so effortless. Hawkins' increasingly accomplished vocals and world renowned drumming skills recall and pay tribute to Hawkins' vast spectrum of classic rock heroes - from the vintage 70s glam stomp of "Way Down," the hard rock rave up "Not Bad Luck," a nod to Beatlesque balladry in the form of "Hell To Pay," and many more. Virtually every track evokes memories of the respective heydays of the Chinn-Chapman hit factory, The Move, Sweet, and even a little 10cc for good measure - all imbued with Hawkins' unmistakable musical personality.

Thanks for the info, sockii. The Toronto date is mighty tempting. The Horse Shoe is a really small venue. It's where The Police played for the first time in Toronto during their first North American tour. And this gig is on my flagaversary. Nice way to celebrate! Unfortunately, my knee is so messed up right now that I don't know if it would hold up through the whole show. I'm kind of kinetic myself when watching really good drummers. Perhaps I could be talked into it if somebody else hereabouts wants to go. They'd have to constantly remind me to take it easy to keep me from damaging myself though.
Any takers?

I would definitely recommend going if you can. Seeing Taylor at the North Star Bar a few years ago here in Philly is definitely one of my concert-going highlights (I think even Vespa will agree)...if your venue has a raised balcony GO THERE as you will get the best "over the kit" view...hmmm...I should post a couple of my old photos to prove this, shouldn't I?

Okay! I've been talked into it. Sockii's pictures speak a thousand words.
I was unable to find any info about the Toronto show until today. The Horseshoe's site still doesn't have it listed, but as of this evening TicketBastard put up some information. The Live Nation and The Edge (radio station, not the U2 guy) presales starts tomorrow, Wed. 31 at 10:00 a.m. The sale to the general public is the next day, same time. Since "The Shoe" is so small, I wouldn't wait around too long before trying to get tickets.
Oh, and I've got a brace for my knee now. So, any TO Nutters that would like to join me need not worry any longer that our evening will end in the emergency ward...at least, not on account of my knee anyway.

Right. I'm in.

Both LA shows, Boston & Philly (and maybe Baltimore & NYC). T-Hawk's gonna think I'm stalking him, but I'm really not; I'm just using him as an excuse to go hang out with my friends.

The tix are blessedly cheap, so if the timing works out, I'm in for the NYC show.
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

I'm going to the Grammercy's box office up at Irving Plaza here in NYC and getting a tkt for Taylor Hawkins.

I just called up and found out I could cut out $6 in Ticketbastard fees and pay only $23. If anyone here is still looking for a tkt let me know either here or on FB. I'll buy you one and you can pay me at the show.
I LOVE "Stew's Floozies"!

Hey Mike,

I was just going to purchase a ticket and then I read your message. I would definitely be interested in taking you up on that offer! I would gladly stick it to Ticketbastard anyway I can!
