This vid doesn't really feature the hi hat but shows that Papa Jo Jones didn't need no stinkin' drumsticks:

that is excellent... reminds me of seeing Roy "everybody loves the sunshine" Ayres and band at Ronnie Scott's (ye olde jazz venue in Soho) and one ofthe drummers solo's included going down to him just rubbing his hands together before building the whole kit back in. amazing.

Papa Jo Jo rulez.

I know Stewart assisted them on the Street Fighting Years album.

Welcome back, Dan. I think there's a pic of you on a recently posted 2012 Thunk thread (alas, you are in the audience of a Stewart event).

For those who want to have the "signature" hi hat from 2007 tour, here is the answer:

I've talk to the guys at Paiste and told the prototype hi hat is just a signature heavy bottom 12" with a Twenty series top 12". Unfortunately their are both out of production, but you can still buy them at ebay.
I did, but I had to purchase BOTH cymbals of each line to get this. Hence, anyone who wants the bizarro SC hats, that is, the Twenty bottom and the signature top, give me a call!

I was lucky enough to get the last signature 12" hh in the store just after it was discontinued. The sound is so awesome!
Such a shame I use the 14" Zildjian more!

Maybe this one has floated around the forum before, but its a drum lesson with some semi-interesting ideas on hi hat development:

Got it. Awesome development of the Moeller stuff. Love Tommy Igoe's 'great hands' too... Another bada@@ drummer.

I'd be totally fascinated to know more about Stewart's development as drummer, his practice regiments, whether he worked on specific techniques to get to that flair on the hi hat or whether it was just organic, etc...

oops, though; another thread, perhaps....
