Bold Tuneage - Stewart on 9700 or just on the 9000?

Bold Tuneage - Stewart on 9700 or just on the 9000?

Postby sameoldbuttercup on 21 Feb 2010 01:31

My Bold 9000 just died. I'm mad enough to set someone on fire, except that's not very nice, so I'm just cursing loudly. I've tried every Google solution to revive it, I've tried bringing it into the phone place for TLC, and made several phone calls made to every available tech support centre in the area. It's toast. They are sending me a new 9000 but first asked me if I wanted to upgrade to the 9700.

I asked the guy -- and I think you'd have to be a Nutter to understand this -- if the ringtones that RIM commissioned for the 9000 were also on the 9700. And he said he didn't know. Turns out he has a Bold 9000 too, so at least he knew what I was talking about, but he could not find any info on whether Our Man Stewart is comin' atcher ears through the newer Bold or not. We both Googled. Sites didn't say yes, but didn't say no either.

So, my question: Does anyone know FOR SURE whether there's SC on the 9700 or just on the 9000 Bold?

I adore my Bold, but I have this chance to upgrade (longer battery life and apparently more reliable trackpad than ball). I would prefer to have my homemade Stewart Copeland Bold theme with my Stewart-made SC ringtones. If the 9700 is better and has the same ringtones, I might change my mind and go for the newer model. Any info to share? Thoughts, feelings, picnics?

Thanks, ya'll... miss you (surprised I could even get in tonight -- took 3 tries but I made it! :o Ususally I can't get to the site at all, no matter how many times I click to re-try. Such a very sad outcome.). Hope everyone is doing well...

I tried to find this out by checking out live demo models in an AT&T store but the 9700 was dead and I didn't feel like asking the guy to fire one up for me because I knew I wasn't going to buy one on the spot and didn't want to get his hopes up. I was able to go through a 9000 and check out the tones.

But maybe you can do that and you'll have better luck.

In my search, I also found a message board where someone had saved the tones as some kind of downloadable file that could then be transferred to a new unit (at least that was the implication). Poke around a bit and you might find it, unfortunately I did not bookmark the site. Good luck!

Hiya, Susan! ~waving~

I tried that today when I was in the city, getting the guy to check my poor dead Blackberry. They only had fake display phones, no try-bies, and the lineup to talk to someone was literally out the door (two lines' worth). The tech guy I spoke to tonight originally said I'd have to drive the 40 minutes back to the store and see what ringtones were on the 9700, but he then told me there would be no point since they were fake models. I think I need to move to another city.

THANK YOU for checking, though! :) I'm going to try something completely off the wall and revolutionary: take the battery out for several hours and then putting it back in. Otherwise my new 9000 will be here sometime around Wednesday and I'm out $200. That downloaded ringtone guy must be a GENIUS because I can't even get my ringtones to backup with the BB software (you're THAT PRECIOUS, Stewart! We can't even make backup copies of you!). I will try a search. THANKS again, Susan! ~hugs~

I had started a thread sort of on this topic awhile ago too but never got a response. Unless the Tour or new Bold has STEWART on it, I think I'm getting a droid or something like that.

Right now it seems like the coolest phone out there is the Google Nexus One phone http://www.google.com/phone/static/en_U ... specs.html (major drool). There's supposed to be a Verizon model coming out in the spring.

Woohoo, only 3 tries to get in this time! Tuesday's my day.

Anyway... I still don't know whether there is SC on the 9700 or not. I can't get in to another Rogers to find out (not only did it snow like a mofo, IT SNOWED LIKE A MOFO). But I do have some good news: I resurrected my Bold.

If your Bold ever decides to up and die on you - and I mean, there's no light at all and you've tried all the flashing stuff you could find online - take out the battery and sim card and let it sit naked and exposed overnight. It will learn its lesson before morning and behave (read: re-set itself). Mine died after a battery pull to get an app to work, and I'm willing to bet this will happen to more than just mine, so keep this solution in mind if it ever happens to you.

Thanks for the info, though, guys :) And it was fun to see you again, however briefly ~hugs~ Now back to my pathetic, flagless life and dreary non-green existance. Have a fantastic week and stay warm! :)

OMG - EQ, I just saw the bigger version of your little darling! I can't believe it, she's so grown up! You must be proud :)

How is it that our kids keep getting older but we all stay the same age?
