MIF Virtual Safe From the Sun Team

MIF Virtual Safe From the Sun Team

Postby luddite lady on 19 Feb 2010 23:57

I got an intriguing e-mail from the folks at the Melanoma International Foundation. This year, for their Safe From the Sun Walk, they are letting people set up virtual teams. I thought a few of us here might want to form a team. I'd gladly spearhead such an endevour if I wasn't virtually an idiot. (The instructions confounded me after the word login.)
Did anyone else get the e-mail? Would anybody be interested in starting up such a team?

I've had an e-mail from them too but haven't checked it out yet. I've been off line for a few days following a particularly nasty accident involving a cup of tea and a keyboard so I haven't gone through the accumulated e-mail mountain yet. I'm up for virtual participation or sponsorship this year having finally succombed and got myself a credit card.

Is there a nutter team this year?

Okay, now I'm really confused. The e-mail I got said that you don't even have to register the virtual team, but that you can have a team homepage to encourage donations. Then they tell you to click here! But that leads to the link EQ provided, which seems designed for registering real teams. But I haven't had the time to look at it all very carefully.

I suppose that there will be a real team of Nutters again this year. If so, it makes the most sense to have just one team. All us virtual supporters can just donate through their team page instead of dividing our efforts. However, if a team of real walkers/runners doesn't come to pass this year, a virtual team would be the next best thing. I think we should wait first to hear what CG_5, Nancyrose, policerule and the like have to say about planning for this year's event.

vespa and I may be in Italy when the walk happens this year so I would be interested in knowing if we're going to have a regular team organized this year, or if we just are going to go for a virtual team.

So, what do you say, ladies and gents of the Eastern USA? Will there be a real live team this year? Will all that snow be melted by then to allow for a walk? Distance and certain current mobility issues of my own prevent me from actually taking part myself. But I'm pumped to lend my financial backing to any real team out there, or in another week when my spring school break starts, I'll do what I can to start up a virtual team. However, given my screen name, "what I can" is pretty limited.

So, we are members of a virtual team and raise money, or get sponsors, for being on the virtual team? Do we have to virtually "walk" somehow, like in a video game or something? I confess, I haven't visited the website.

So, anyone gonna start up a team, virtual or real?

I can re-activate Nutters for Life, I think, but vespa and I won't be able to make the walk this year as we'll be out of the country (but trust me, we'll be doing more than enough walking...)
