Police Withdrawl

Postby Johnny O on 13 Jan 2010 15:23

Ok, I'll say it... I am having serious Police withdrawl. I just re-watched the Certifiable concert, doc and the Tour announcement in LA. Damn things were awesome back then! Even Sting would say from time to time that he is enjoying himself and new music isn't out of the question. I am VERY grateful for the reunion, don't get me wrong. I am just having a moment of uncontrollable selfishness. I want MORE dammit 8)

What to do? What to do?

uuuhh...yesterday I was listening to 'The Police live in Boston 1979' and today 'Synchronicity live 1983' from the double live disc released about ten years ago...I just felt I missed those moments....
We're in the same big boat....!

What to do Johnny O?

Regatta was the musical equivalent of my first really good snog (Regatta pre-dating the snog in question). Great as that first good snog was (thank you James), I'm not going to be stalking the guy several decades later for a repeat. I'm sure there are equally thrilling snogs yet to be experienced, and stalking James would probably limit my future chances on the snog front.

The wonderful thing about music is that if you stumble across something really good early on it's ALWAYS going to be good. With music you get to snog the old, good stuff without scuppering your chances with the new. You get to flirt with your first love - Mr Copeland referred to putting a hand in the cookie jar once in a while - and go out and play the field.

In short - go out and be a musical tart Johnny O. As in '78/9 you'll have to snog a whole lot of frogs before you find a Regatta, but they're out there.

I'd be happy if we could just get Stewart and Andy jamming together again. I know it's taboo and all that but I miss the chemistry. With Andy's penchant for weird songs (Friends, Mother) maybe he could work with Stewart and Les...humm....

Smudge,
I do not believe a posting has ever made me blush before...
Thank GOD I wasn't listening to a Police song during my first actual snog. That would've ruined the band's music forever

yeah,..... i agree BUT the problem is that andy's penchant for weird songs was , ooh, 25 - 30 years ago and since then he's a jazzy fret-wanker; that's intended to be descriptive not abusive.

and stewart did his thing with les nearly ten years ago; we know what his next projects are; and they're not what you'd call improvised fusion funk-rock; gamelan, anyone?

Gordo's the only one who has said that he's got a rock album in him and that he will return with a "proper" album soon.

Uh huh. That's what Sting says, but what kind of rock album does he have in him? Will he get Destiny's Child to reunite and join him to release the hit album "Lute-ylicious"?

Personally, I think we're more likely to see the return of Oysterhead before we get anything significantly rocking from Mr. Sting.
In Dallas, the only game that really mattered was in the word gamelan.

Yes, but is it possible to fret-wank jazzily with Stewart hammering away behind you?

Darnit, it's like there's this vending machine that dispenses the best tasting rock ever, and it's got an out of order sign. :(

Great thread.

I swear nothing has ever 'grabbed my b-----ks' like hearing Reggatta De Blanc in '79.
Nothing ever will.

I totally agree even though I don't have any b-----ks to grab.

And here it is still grabbing our grabbable bits all these years later.
