Oh that reminds me, the Indigo presents La Serpent Rouge which is a spin-off the Belly Dancer Superstars is going on tour in late March and early April. They're performing in Nashville at the Exit In on March 25th and in Alexandria, VA at the Birchmere (Wooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!) on April 1st.

I know Barbara had once told me a few years ago that they were toying with the idea of having them perform with a live band if they did this tour. I think it would be pretty cool and I can't wait to see this. Rachel Brice rocks!

And I've not followed Miles' bellydancing-thing (but heard Stewart mention it in STH. I thought he was talking about Miles' date!) Will check it out.

I love Miles. Without him, the soundtrack of my youth would never have exsisted.
That said, I find this Bellydance Superstar thing fascinating. The whole idea is completely foreign to me so I have no idea what to even expect at one of these shows. Perhaps a little more investigating is in order.
Oh, and the Birchmere is one of my favorite places!

Sounds like we have some uninitiated (mwahaha) to initiate. If you've not been to a BDSS show: go go go go go. These women are really insanely talented, and the costumes alone would be worth the price of admission even if that weren't the case. Tickets are usually pretty reasonable, also.

BDSS has had involvement by a lot of Copelands: Stewart's kids help out, so do Ian's (though I haven't heard much on Miles' own kids doing much with it). Miles himself attends some of the shows and I'm told it's a hoot to talk to him there (he seems to miss the Nashville ones, regrettably).

Anyway, the gig is well worth your time and attention. Miles has said he thinks of bellydance as a way to educate Westerners about the Arabic-speaking world, a worthy goal on the face of it.
