A Beat For Peace - Stewart is involved

Postby giovanni on 08 Jan 2010 10:42

Hi everybody from Giovanni.
Stewart Copeland is involved in a project called 'A Beat For Peace', that will be launched on January 9th from the association 'Italians for Darfur'; drummers from all over the world, including also Phil Selway (Radiohead) and Nick Mason (Pink Floyd) and the Italian well known drummer Tony Esposito, will give their support with videos and tracks; the project will be launched to 'make some noise' for the 5th Anniversary of the Peace Agreement between North and South Sudan, that lately seemed to be in danger, and it involves 14 countries.

I don't have images or more information about Stewart appearance yet; by now there are a few links (only in Italian) about the news:

Stewart is also mentionned today on the electronic version of serious french newspaper "Le Monde" :

Here is my little translation. I'm sure LuditeLady will make some good corrections so everyone can understand.

So I think I understand.

Today at rallies around the world concerning Sudan, there will be a film released called Sudan.365 which features drummers from around the world, including Stewart. The events mark the 10th anniversary of the end (to the degree it ended) of the civil war between the northern and southern parts of Sudan, as well bringing attention to the other big Sudan issue, Darfur.

I haven't seen anything that Stewart will be at the events (including one in LA) but he could, of course, show up.

Is that right?

The Beat for Peace video is up on Sudan365.com.

Stewart appears at 2:29-3:39 playing a percussive rack and then briefly at 3:20 at the drum set.

Merci a lot !
I have so many things to do these days that I don't post messages or only a very few, but I'm still around.

Back to the topic: I'm surprised this initiative isn't mentionned at all on TP.com (last news is dated December 7h)... I thought it would deserve to be mentionned as it's not only about Stewart, it's about Sudan. Maybe this site is dead and I didn't notice it.

I really like this! So many drummers coming together around the world to raise awareness, I think it's great( and great to see the Maestro being part of it, of course).
Also, I think the editing of the whole thing is very good.
